Select ‘Search history via machine type serial number’, then enter the Lenovo ThinkSystem Machine Type and Serial Number in the search value field.

    The Lenovo ThinkSystem VPD consists of the SMBIOS settings: Machine Type, Model, and Serial Number. The SWG Appliance will use the original Lenovo hardware values in the VPD fields. The Appliance VPD will be stored in the Asset Tag field.

For a new replacement planar, the asset tag will be blank. After updating the Asset Tag, is should look like the example in Figure 6. Important Note: The Asset Tag will be updated with the value provided with no syntax checking. Double check before confirming. Figure 9 After entering the appliance VPD information, a summary of the changes will be shown, and the user can either confirm or back out.

It's also critical to update the Lenovo system VPD as FOD keys also need to be reinstalled. Once the server comes back to the Blue Menu, verify that the Asset Tag has been updated correctly. The user can select option 4 again from the Main Menu to re-scan the VPD fields.

Invalid Asset Tag / Appliance VPD If by any chance, a valid Appliance VPD is not recognized by the tool or the server is NOT an appliance, but the tool has detected information in the Asset Tag, please review the instructions on the screen and take the appropriate action.

In most cases, the appliances use OEM firmware versions which are not compatible with regular code packages. Remember that these machines are only supported by BoMCsft4.
