Procedure 5
The purpose of this procedure is to determine if the problem is associated with the HDD or
the system configuration. To perform this procedure, begin with Check 1 and continue as
instructed.
Check 1
Determine if the system recognizes the HDD in setup or during bootup.
If the system recognizes the HDD in setup or during bootup, perform Check 2. If
the system does not recognize the HDD in setup or during bootup, perform the
HDD Troubleshooting Process.
Check 2
(A) Remove the bootable diskette from the FDD. (B) Reboot the system.
If DOS successfully loads from the HDD, perform Procedure 6. If DOS does not
successfully load from the HDD, perform the HDD Troubleshooting Process.
Procedure 6
The purpose of this procedure is to determine if the problem is associated with the CD-ROM
drive or the system configuration. To perform this procedure, begin with Check 1 and
continue as instructed.
Check 1
Determine if the system recognizes the CD-ROM drive in setup or during bootup.
If the system recognizes the CD-ROM drive in setup or during bootup, perform
Check 2. If the system does not recognize the CD-ROM drive in setup or during
bootup, perform the CD-ROM Drive Troubleshooting Process.
Check 2
(A) Start the CD-ROM player software. (B) Insert a CD into the CD-ROM
drive. (C) Click on the [Play] button on the CD-ROM software's interface.
If the CD-ROM drive operates properly, perform Procedure 7. If the CD-ROM
drive does not operate properly, perform the CD-ROM Drive Troubleshooting
Process.
Procedure 7
The purpose of this procedure is to determine if the system responds to keyboard input. To
perform this procedure, begin with Check 1 and continue as instructed.
Check 1
Test the keyboard's operation by pressing (typing) character keys on the
keyboard.
If characters display on the screen as typed, perform Check 2. If characters do
not display on the screen as typed, perform the Keyboard Troubleshooting
Process.
Check 2
Determine if the original problem still exists.
If the original problem still exists, perform the Problem Definition Process. If the
problem no longer exists, perform the No Trouble Found Process.
