Bonding and Grounding Requirements
Install lay in lug (Burndy CL501-TN or approved grounding device for the Terrasmart racking system) at the end of one Cee
Purlin per rack following manufacturer's instructions and as shown in Figure 3.4.1. Lay in 6 AWG copper equipment
grounding conductor (EGC) into the lay in lug and route to NEC compliant direct to earth ground such as a properly sized
grounding rod or to the main equipment ground. Sizing of direct to earth ground is to be determined by others. The path
of grounding from PV modules to lay in lug is diagramed by Figure 3.4.2 and Figure 3.4.3. In some cases, integrated bonding
between PV modules and rack is provided through piercing of the PV module frame by the integrated star washer of the
PV module fastener. See PV Module Bonding Section 3.5 of this installation guide for more PV module bonding options.
An alternative method for bonding table to table or connecting table to EGC is the Burndy GAR184CW as shown in
3.4.3. Follow manufacturer's installation instructions if using this method.
Grounding path may be extended between racks using UL2703 listed bonding jumper or by running

copper wire between two approved lay in lugs secured to adjacent racks. Wire sizing to be determined
by electrical engineer. Be sure that no bare copper conductor is in direct contact with steel.
