Attaching the Sight

Mount the sight on the camera accessory shoe as shown.

Some designs of camera or lens may interfere with attachment or removal.
Do not use the built-in flash, as it will press against the sight when raised.

Turning the Sight On or Off

Slide the pop-up control to raise the sight; the sight will turn on and the reticle will light (Figure 4). To turn the sight off, gently lower the upper cover until it clicks into place (Figure 5).
Turning the Sight On or Off

  • When the sight is raised, the reticle can be turned off by pressing and holding a reticle brightness button or the color selection button for over 2 seconds (the reticle will also turn off if no operations are performed for 4 hours). Pressing either button turns the reticle on again.

Positioning the Reticle

The position of the reticle must be adjusted according to the distance to the subject. To prevent the camera moving during the operation, mount it on a tripod or rest it on a flat, stable surface.

To position the reticle:

  1. Frame an object at the desired distance (Figure 6).
Frame an object at the desired distance
Choose an object the same distance from the camera as your subject and frame it in the center of the monitor or viewfinder. If you are using a zoom lens, we recommend that you set it to the focal length at which it will be used during shooting. Note that you may not be able to position the reticle satisfactorily if the object is too close; we recommend choosing subjects or objects at least 10 m (33 ft) distant (all figures are approximate).
  2. Position the reticle over the object (Figure 7).
Position the reticle over the object
From a position directly behind the sight, rotate the reticle adjustment dials to position the reticle over the object in the sight's screen. Adjust the reticle's color or brightness as necessary if you find it hard to see against the background.

Taking Pictures (Figure 8)

Taking Pictures

Aim the camera to position the reticle over your subject. Your subject will also be displayed in the camera monitor or viewfinder.

Precautions for Use

  • Lower the sight for storage or transport.
  • Some designs of camera or lens may block the sight.
  • Parts of the reticle may not be displayed at the top left and right edges of the screen.
  • The reticle may appear doubled; this can sometimes be corrected by choosing a subject farther away.
  • Do not touch the screen with your fingers. Lint and dust can be removed with a blower, fingerprints, grease, and other stains using a soft, clean cotton cloth or lens cleaning tissue dampened with a small amount of ethanol or commercial lens cleaner. Clean the entire screen evenly, taking care not to leave smears.
