EMS is an electronic system with CAN communication (Controller Area Network) for diesel engine control. The system has been developed by Volvo Penta and includes fuel regulation and diagnostic functions. The system consists of a control unit, injectors, a number of sensors that supply the control unit with information, and connectors for diagnostics and functional checks.
The operator is warned that there is a malfunction via the instruments. Depending on the instrumentation in use, the fault message is shown in various ways. Fault codes can also be read out by the Volvo Penta diagnostic tool. Depending on the severity of the fault, the diagnostic function will take various actions to protect the engine and limit emissions (e.g.
Fault Tracing A number of symptoms and possible causes of engine malfunctions are described in the table below. Always contact your Volvo Penta dealer if any problems occur which you can not solve by yourself. IMPORTANT: Read through the instructions for care and maintenance in before starting work.
