    Alarm Test Installation Positioning 1 . Always make sure to test your smoke alarm when it i s turned on for the first time, or whenever you change the battery or reconfigure the device. You should also test the device weekly, or whenever you have been away from home for a long time.
  • Page 12 1 . Prioritize the installation of an alarm in the bedroom and walkways, and make sure you can hear the alarm from all sleeping areas. I n a home with several bedrooms, install an alarm in every bedroom. If you install only one smoke alarm in your home, install the alarm near to all bedrooms where possible, and not in a basement or furnace room.
