CREOSOTE AND NEED FOR REMOVAL When wood is burned slowly, it produces tar and other organic vapors, which combine with expelled moisture to form creosote. The creosote vapors condense in the relatively cool chimney flue of a slow- burning fire. As a result, creosote residues accumulate on the flue liner. When ignited, this creosote makes an extremely hot fire.

Woodburning The firewood you use will make an important contribution to successful operation. You will achieve the best performance and overall efficiency by burning firewood that has been split, stacked and air-dried undercover from rain for at least one year. Burning improperly seasoned or “green” wood can be a frustrating experience leading to poor performance, smoky fires and a build-up of creosote.
