    Inserting an optional SD/SDHC card 1. Open the battery compartment. Optional SD/SDHC cards are not included. The use of 64MB to 4GB memory cards from recognized manufacturers such as SanDisk, Panasonic and Toshiba is recommended for reliable data storage. 2. Insert an optional SD/SDHC card into the memory card slot as shown.

    BASIC OPERATION Shooting in Auto mode Auto mode is the easiest mode to take pho- tos. While operating in this mode, the camera automatically optimizes your photos for best results. To start shooting, do the following: 1. Set the mode dial to Auto mode ( 2.

    Using the flash There are six flash modes. Press the Left/ Flash to cycle through the following flash modes. • Auto flash Flash fires automatically when required. • Red-eye reduction flash The camera fires a brief flash before the picture is taken to reduce red-eye effects. •...

    Using Macro mode In Macro mode, you can capture tiny details of the subject at a very close range. Press the Right/Macro to take close-up shots. • Macro Select this to focus on subjects 5cm from the lens. Exposure compensation The exposure compensation allows you to adjust the background brightness to produce the best result of photos.

    Advanced function menu WB (White Balance) The white balance allows the user to adjust the color temperature under different light source to ensure faithful color reproduction. (The WB setting is only available when the camera is in the Manual mode). To set the white balance, do the following: button to enter the Function 1.

    The ISO function allows you to set the camera sensor sensitivity to light. To improve the performance in darker environments, a higher ISO value is required. On the other hand, a lower ISO value is needed when in bright conditions. (The ISO setting is only available when the camera is in the Manual mode).

    Quality The quality setting adjusts the compression ratio of the images. Higher quality settings give better photos, but will take up more memory space. To set the image quality, do the following: button to enter the Function 1. Press the menu.

    The bigger the number of recorded pixels is, the better the image quality becomes. As the number of recorded pixels becomes smaller, you will be able to record more frames on a memory card. (See page 36 for the GE digital camera available size settings).

    14 Memory card/internal memory indicator For best movie results, the use of SD cards is recommended. Movie recordings using internal memory are subject to quality degradations. While movie recording is in progress, optical zoom will stay fixed, but up to 1.5X digital zoom will remain available.

    Scene mode In Scene mode, you can select from a total of 12 scene types to match your needs. You just need to select the right scene for the occasion and the camera will automatically adjust to the optimal settings for you. To enter the scene mode, turn the mode dial to Scene mode.

    Snow For shooting snow scenes. Balances the white scenery. Sunset For shooting sunsets. Vivid reproduction of red and yellow. Fireworks For shooting at night and fireworks. Shutter- speed is slower than normal. Glass For shooting objects behind transparent glass. Museum For shooting in museums or places where flash is not allowed.

    PLAYBACK Viewing photos and videos To view the captured photos and video clips on the LCD screen: 1. Turn your camera to Playback mode. The last recorded photo or video clip is displayed. 2. Use the Left/Right navigation buttons to scroll through the photos or video clips stored in the internal memory or memory card.

    Using the Delete button The camera is equipped with a quick Delete button for you to delete photos or video- clips without entering the Playback menu. To delete a photo or video: 1.     AF mode (Auto-Focus mode) Use this setting to control the auto-focus mechanism while taking pictures. Two options are available: • Single-AF: The focus frame appears on the center of the LCD screen to focus on the subject. • Multi-AF: The camera automatically focuses the subject in a wide area to find the focus point.

    Cont. Shot (Continuous shot) Use this setting to perform continuous shoot- ing. Once in this mode, you must continuously hold the shutter button to use this function. Four options are available: • Off: Capture a single shot only. • 5 shot: Capture up to 5 consecutive pictures.

    Quick Review This setting refers to the quick photo review immediately after taking a picture. The pic- ture stays on the LCD screen for an adjustable period of time. Three options are available: • 1 sec • 2 sec • 3 sec Digital Zoom Use this setting to enable or disable the digi- tal zoom function.

    Histogram The histogram is used for checking the expo- sure while taking pictures. Use this setting to enable or disable the histogram display on the LCD screen. Slow Shutter Slow Shutter mode will keep the shutter open as long as you push down the shutter button. So, you are in complete control of the exposure.

    To protect/unprotect a picture or video: 1. Turn your camera to Playback mode and display the picture or video that you would like to protect. 2.     Info. Box (Information Box) Use this setting to enable or disable the text display for taking pictures. The following information will be displayed on the screen: histogram display, aperture value, shutter speed, exposure value, image size, image quality, and ISO value.     LCD Brightness Use this setting to adjust the brightness of your LCD screen. 1. Select the LCD Brightness setting from the Setup menu as described previously. 2. Use the Left/Right navigation buttons to adjust the brightness level. Then press the button to confirm.

    3. Use the Left/Right navigation buttons to specify the idle period before automatic power-off. The level bars correspond to the following idle periods. • LCD off: 30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes, and Always on. • Camera off: 3 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, and Always on.

    File Numbering After capturing photos or videos, the camera will automatically save the file with a numeric suffix. You can use this setting to determine whether the number should continue on from the last photo you have taken, or reset the counter to 1 and save files in a new folder in the memory card.

    select NTSC or PAL. Then press the button to confirm. The video output signal can be switched to NTSC or PAL to accommodate different regional standards.     CONNECTIONS Connecting to a TV You can connect your camera to your television, computer, or printer to view picture you have taken. By using the AV cable, you can view the captured images on a TV. Follow the steps below to connect the supplied AV cable to a TV.

    Connecting to a PC Use the USB cable and ArcSoft software (CD- ROM) supplied with your camera to copy (transfer) pictures to a computer. Setting the USB mode Since the camera’s USB port can be set to connect with either a PC or a Printer, the following steps will allow you to ensure that the camera is correctly configured to connect with a PC.

    Connecting the camera and printer. 1. Make sure both the camera and printer are turned on. 2. Connect one end of the supplied USB cable to the USB port on your camera. 3. Connect the other end of the cable to the USB port on the printer.
