Prerequisite
Avoid contact with hot components inside the computer. During operation, some components become hot
enough to burn the skin. Before you open the computer cover, turn off the computer, disconnect power, and
wait approximately 10 minutes for the components to cool.
The heat-sink-and-fan assembly and microprocessor might be very hot. Before you open the computer
cover, turn off the computer and wait several minutes until the computer is cool.
Notes:
• Your microprocessor sockets and socket covers might look slightly different from the illustrations in this
topic.
• Do not touch the pins on the microprocessor socket or the gold contacts on the microprocessor.
System board replacement procedure
1. Remove the front bezel. See "Front bezel" on page 57.
2. Remove the optical drive. See "Optical drive" on page 60.
3. Remove the hard disk drive. See "Hard disk drive" on page 62.
4. Remove the card reader. See "Card reader" on page 81.
5. Remove the cover presence switch. See "Cover presence switch" on page 87.
6. To get access to the system board, remove the following parts if any:
a. "Memory module" on page 67.
b. "Coin-cell battery" on page 68.
c. "M.2 solid-state drive" on page 70.
d. "Wi-Fi card" on page 73.
e. "Heat sink and fan assembly" on page 75.

"Microprocessor" on page 84.
