  • Page 7 A - CONNECT THE ETHERNET CABLE Connect the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on the back of the LaCie CloudBox. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable into an available Ethernet “out” port on your router or hub (refer to your router or hub’s documentation).
  • Page 8 Connect the power supply to a wall outlet and to the LaCie CloudBox. It will power on immediately. The LaCie CloudBox may take up to nine minutes to boot. Go to the next step once the blue LED has stopped blinking.
  • Page 9 Caution: Only use the AC adapter supplied with your specific LaCie device. Do not use a power supply from another LaCie device or another manufacturer. Using any other power cable or power supply may cause damage to the device and void your warranty. Always remove the AC adapter before transporting your LaCie device.

  • Page 12 2.B WHAT IS THE FAMILY FOLDER? The Family folder is available to all the computers connected to the same router as the LaCie CloudBox. Since it is a public access folder, any computer in your home can copy files to or from Family.

However, you can speed up data transfers to the LaCie CloudBox by attaching it directly to one of your home computers. This is ideal for large music, movie, and photo libraries that you wish to copy and store on the LaCie CloudBox.

  • Page 20 4.A USERS: ADD USERS AND PRIVATE ACCESS For instant sharing, all files within the LaCie CloudBox Family folder are accessible to everyone in the home. To gain a bit of privacy, you can also create personal folders by adding users to the LaCie CloudBox.

  • Page 22 Launch an internet browser (Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari, etc.). Type the name of the LaCie CloudBox in the browser's web address (URL) field. Use the default name, LaCie-CloudBox, the first time you log in. Please note that the name can be different based upon your operating system.
  • Page 23 You will be prompted to complete the LaCie CloudBox Welcome page: You may keep the default name of the LaCie CloudBox, LaCie-CloudBox, or enter a new name. The name is: limited to 15 characters; case-sensitive; and can consist only of alphanumeric characters without spaces or symbols.
  • Page 24 Note: Any CloudBox user can log into the Dashboard using his login and password. However, only the administrator has the right to revise settings. Login Tip: If you know the IP address for the LaCie CloudBox, you may enter it into the browser address field instead of the name. For example, http://[IP-address].

  • Page 26 4.C USERS: ACCESS YOUR PERSONAL FOLDER IN THE HOME Your LaCie CloudBox personal folder can be accessed on a home computer. While the Family folder is always available, your personal folder requires your user name and password. Windows XP Open an Explorer Window by clicking twice on your internal hard drive (e.g. My Computer or the C: drive).
  • Page 27 Helpful Tip: The administrator should pay attention to the amount of files that users are copying to the LaCie CloudBox. While it is very helpful to have up to 10 users, the total amount of storage space can be filled quickly if many users add files to the LaCie CloudBox.

  • Page 32 4.F BACKUP: WINDOWS The LaCie CloudBox supports most popular backup programs. Review this chapter for instructions on how to use Windows Backup and LaCie Genie Timeline. Note: The first computer backup may take several hours due to the amount of files that will be copied to the LaCie CloudBox.

    Click on the icon for Time Machine to select Open Time Machine Preferences…. Click on Select Backup Disk… or Select Disk… if you are changing the backup to the LaCie CloudBox. Click on Family on LaCie-CloudBox then Use for Backup. Please note that this is the default name and does not reflect changes you may have made to the device.

You can take advantage of Wuala's security by using it to share files with your family and friends. Access to your files outside the home is available using LaCie MyNAS. You can set up LaCie MyNAS in the CloudBox administration tool.

  • Page 74 5.B NAVIGATE THE LACIE CLOUDBOX DASHBOARD CENTRAL PANE AND WIDGETS The Dashboard Homepage has a central pane with links to specific management pages. Click once on a link (for example, General Settings) to view or revise its parameters. The smaller icons on the lower right are called widgets. The icons inside the widgets are easy to match with the names in the center pane of the Dashboard Homepage.

    New User - Personal Folders By creating a new user, the administrator will add a personal folder to the LaCie CloudBox. As opposed to the Family folder, personal folders can offer private access, requiring a username and password. Whenever a user accesses his personal folder on a PC or Mac in the home, he will be prompted for the username and password assigned by the administrator.
  • Page 81 To delete a user, click the grey X on the far right of the user's row. A pop-up window will ask for confirmation. By clicking APPLY, you will delete the user's share and all of his data.   • Page 85 Local (Folder-to-Folder): User Folder A on a LaCie CloudBox to Family on the same LaCie CloudBox. When you back up files from one folder to another folder on the same CloudBox, the system keeps up to 10 copies of the backup job.
  • Page 86 Folders or Shares?: In general, this user manual refers to the Family folder and private access folders as folders. The public access folder and private access folders on your LaCie CloudBox may also be called shares. A share is a common networking term used to describe a particular volume, partition, or folder.
