The KG-805G operates on General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) frequencies according to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Rules in the United States.     Getting Started Dust and Water Protection The KG-805G is waterproof to IP55 standards. It is dust resistant and rated to with- stand water projected by a nozzle (6.3 mm) against enclosure from any direction for a limited period. This radio is resistant to dust and water only while the battery is proper- ly installed and locked in place with no gaps and the accessory port is completely sealed with the accessory port cover.

    Getting Started Getting Started The Battery Installing the Battery To install the Lithium-ion battery pack: 1. Be sure the radio is off. 2. Slide the battery pack down the back off the radio until the three tabs on the bottom of the battery slide into the slots at the bottom of the radio.

    Getting Started The Antenna The KG-805G includes an antenna with an SMA female connector that is tuned for the GMRS frequency range of your radio. Aftermarket antennas may be used, provided they are tuned for the GMRS. Warning: To avoid injury, DO NOT attempt to operate your radio if the antenna is damaged or defective.

    10 years. The KG-805G was designed to allow you to take advantage of all that GMRS has to offer and more. Right out of the box this radio is configured to allow you to transmit on the 15 high powered GMRS simplex channels, 8 low powered simplex channels, and the 8 repeater channels.

    Your First Transmit Selecting a Channel When you power on your KG-805G for the first time, the display will likely show “CH01” on the left with “01” on the right. CH01 is the name of the currently selected channel and 01 is the channel number. Turn the Channel Knob or press the [UP] / [DOWN] arrow keys to navigate through the list of channels.

    Channels and Privacy Codes The KG-805G supports 30 built-in GMRS channels and 155 privacy tones and codes. To successfully communicate between your stations or members of your group, all the connecting radios must be using the same channel and privacy (CTCSS or DCS) code.

    The KG-805G supports 128 customizable memory channels. Channels can be added, deleted or reordered via the PC programming software. Using the Repeater Channels The KG-805G is pre-configured with 8 GMRS repeater channels. The channels are named RPT15 through RPT22. What is a Repeater? In basic terms, a repeater is a device that is used to increase the range of two way radios.

    PF1 button from the menu (p 33). Priority Channel Scan The KG-805G supports Priority Channel Scanning. With this feature a priority chan- nel can be specified that is scanned much more frequently than other channels. This helps prevent missing all or part of a transmission when you are primarily concerned with a single channel.

    Key Lock The buttons on the KG-805G can be locked to prevent them from being accidentally pressed. When the Key Lock is enabled, all buttons except the Alarm, PTT, Monitor and Exit keys will be disabled. The Channel knob will also be disabled.

    Stopwatch Timer The KG-805G has a built-in stopwatch timer. Once enabled, Press [EXIT] on the ra- dio to activate the stopwatch. Press any key or turn the channel knob to stop the timer. When stopped, press [EXIT] to clear and restart the timer, or press any key to deacti- vate the stopwatch and return to standby mode.

    Menu Functions Menu Functions Menu Functions Menu Functions [01: SQL-LE] Squelch Level Function: The squelch function allows you to set the threshhold of the signal strength received and mutes the speaker when no signal is detected. Selecting a lower number will allow weaker signals to be heard, higher numbers require a stronger signal.

    Function: The VOX function allows you to transmit without pressing the PTT key. When enabled, VOX automatically activates transmission when the radio detects a voice or other noise. The KG-805G has 10 VOX levels of sensitivity to detect sound, from 1 (most sensitive) to 10 (least sensitive. The higher the level, the louder the sound needed to activate VOX.

    Menu Functions Menu Functions Options: OFF/1-9 (level) Default: OFF [06: TOA] Transmit Overtime Alarm Function: The Transmit Overtime Alarm warns when the transmit time limit set in the Transmit Overtime Timer (TOT) is about to be exceeded. When enabled, the red TX indicator LED on top of the radio flashes to indicate an alarm. The alarm can be set to a maximum time limit of 10 seconds and indicates the amount of time left until the Transmit Overtime Timer is exceeded and the radio automatically ends transmission.
