    Servicing the Printer The Canon BJC-5000 Series Color Bubble Jet Printer is designed with the latest technology to provide trouble-free operation. The Warranty Card that comes with the printer describes Canon’s limited one-year warranty for your Bubble Jet printer. Be sure to read the warranty information to find out about the different service options available to you.

Slots and openings in the printer and on the back or bottom are provided for ventilation. To ensure reliable operation of the printer and to protect it from overheating, do not block or cover these openings.

    You must install the BJC-5000 Series Printer Driver for Windows 95 before you can use the printer with your computer. See your Quick Start Guide for instructions.

    Make sure Choose Print or Print Setup from the File menu. You will the Canon see a screen similar to this: BJC-5000 Series is selected as your default printer. Click on the Properties button if you want to make any adjustments as appropriate for printing your document.

    From within any Windows application, you can select the Print or Print Setup command. From the Printers folder, you can select the printer and then select the Properties command from the File menu. From the Printers folder, you can select the printer, click the right mouse button, and then select Properties from the drop down list.

    Printing Speed Versus Color The BJC-5000 Series Printer Driver for Windows 95 can interpret and translate the full spectrum of colors, up to 16.7 million colors. When printing in color, there is a significant increase in the amount of information that the driver has to interpret and translate.

    To improve printing speed, you can try the following: Set the parallel port to ECP To achieve the optimum performance from your printer, the parallel port must be set to ECP. If the port is not set to ECP, you must change your system setup (also called System BIOS or CMOS settings).

    Printing on envelopes Using Canon Specialty Papers To ensure the best performance of your printer, you’ll want to select the best paper and load it correctly. You can stack paper in the sheet feeder to load it automatically, or you can manually feed one sheet at a time from the back of the printer.

Glossy Photo Paper Canon Glossy Photo Paper GP-201 is a high gloss, thicker paper that produces the look and feel of a photograph.     Do not unplug the printer unnecessarily. Do not unplug the printer or turn off a power strip to which the printer is attached when the printer’s power is turned on. This may prevent the BJ cartridge from returning to the home position on the right and being capped, which may cause the print heads to dry out.

    BJ cartridge or BJ tank is out of ink, you can print a test print. You can start a test print as follows. Make sure the printer is off and plain paper is loaded in the sheet feeder. Press and hold the once.

    Aligning the Print Heads When you click on the Start Auto Head Alignment box, you see this screen: Make sure you have letter-size plain paper loaded. The printer outputs a one-page pattern. When you click the Align Print Heads button, the printer automatically aligns the print heads.

    Cleaning the Print Heads Your printer is equipped with a print head cleaning function to ensure constant high quality printing. When you turn the printer on, it automatically performs print head cleaning (if necessary). You can also initiate the print head cleaning procedure from the Maintenance tab.

    Saving Power To save power, you can automatically turn off the printer if it is idle for a specified period of time. When you click the Save Power box, you see this screen: Click on the Save Power drop-down list to select Disabled, after 10 minutes, after 30 minutes, or after 60 minutes.

    When you run out of ink, you replace the complete cartridge. Choosing Which BJ Cartridges to Use Your BJC-5000 Series printer holds two BJ cartridges. The BJ cartridge holders are labeled 1 and 2. The standard configuration is to install the BC-21e Color BJ Cartridge in Holder 1 and the BC-23 Enhanced Black BJ Cartridge in Holder 2.

    For optimum use of the BJC-5000 Series printer, be sure to install both cartridges.     Glossary Automatic feed Refers to one way in which paper can be fed into the printer when the sheet feeder is used. BJ cartridge The printing mechanism that contains the print head unit and BJ tanks. Bubble Jet printing An ink jet type of printing that heats the ink to a boiling point in a nozzle to form a bubble.
  • Page 81 A color in the color spectrum. Examples are red, green, and violet. Ink Cartridge Storage Box A box for storing a BJ cartridge. A BJ cartridge removed from the printer must be stored inside this container to prevent the print head of the cartridge from drying and clogging.
