Oil level, checking and topping up
WARNING!
Working with or approaching a running engine is a
safety risk. Watch out for rotating components and hot
surfaces.
•
Normally the oil level is to be checked when the
engine is stopped. Wait a few minutes before
reading off the level, so that the oil has time to run
down into the oil sump.
•
Dipstick marked STOP/OPERATING can be read
both when the engine is stopped and when it is
running. Use the STOP side of the dipstick when the
engine is stopped and the OPERATING side when
in operation.
•
The oil level must be inside the marked area on the
dipstick. Never fill above the maximum limit on the
oil dipstick.
•
Only fill oil when the engine is stopped.
•
Only use Volvo Penta recommended oils; refer to
Technical Data, page 92.
•
The oil level sensor only measures the oil level when
the ignition is switched to on, not continuously
during operation.
Checking the oil with a flexible dipstick
IMPORTANT:
Insert the dipstick in increments of around 200 mm,
without bending the wire, for the entire length of the
plastic tube.
