  • Page 5 This equipment/machinery is designed and constructed for the general cleaning of plastic waste bins, designed and constructed to EN840, of sizes 140/240/360/600/1100 litres only that have not contained hazardous wastes. For any other bin types, Hugh Crane Cleaning Equipment should be contacted for approval before proceeding.

The machine should not be operated with any of the guards, covers or any other safety equipment removed or damaged. 5.2.4 Controls: All operating controls should be checked for correct functioning daily before use.

LEGIONELLA/LEGIONNAIRE’S DISEASE: Further to the information and requirements noted in section 5.1 of this document, the attention of users/operators is particularly drawn to the following: All pressurised water jetting and cleaning equipment has the potential to produce aerosols and if the water supply to the machine contains legionella bacteria, these bacteria can become airborne within the jetting aerosol.
  • Page 14 TBCU TRAILER MOUNTED BIN CLEANING UNIT Page 14 of 39 8. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS. GENERAL 8.1.1 Before commencing any bin cleaning operations it is vital to formulate a plan of work. Such activities may have to take place where the general public could normally be present.
  • Page 15 TBCU TRAILER MOUNTED BIN CLEANING UNIT Page 15 of 39 TOWING AND MOVING ON TO THE PUBLIC HIGHWAY Ensure that the towing vehicle is of suitable capacity to tow the Trailed Bin Cleaning Unit (the weight of which is 900kg, including 200 litres of water, which should not be exceeded) and that the driver is competent in towing.

    8.3.1 BEFORE USING THE EQUIPMENT Before using this equipment, operators should have undergone basic training in its safe use. Training courses are available from Hugh Crane (Cleaning Equipment) Ltd. if required. Suitable protective clothing should be provided and worn as detailed in section 5.1 of this document.
  • Page 17 TBCU TRAILER MOUNTED BIN CLEANING UNIT Page 17 of 39 8.3.2 BEFORE CARRYING OUT ANY WORK ON THE UNIT The bin lift must be in its lowered position, bin removed from clamp, battery disconnected, engine ignition key removed, any residual water pressure released, any residual hydraulic pressure released.

    TBCU TRAILER MOUNTED BIN CLEANING UNIT Page 18 of 39 8.4 OPERATOR CONTROLS 8.4.1 OPERATOR INTERFACE The main operator controls are located on the pushbutton station as illustrated below The engine ignition switch (engine stop/start) is mounted directly on the engine.
  • Page 19 TBCU TRAILER MOUNTED BIN CLEANING UNIT Page 19 of 39 Using the Manual bin lifts Insert bin lift bar into its holder and fix with the pin. Place bin (lid open) next to the grip and lock in place. Once locked in, gently lift and rotate the bin over the wash tray.

To reset after a stop, insert the key and turn it until the button clicks out into the normal position.

Engine oil - dipstick Pump oil – dipstick iii) Gearbox oil - dipstick (Confirm oil specifications from engine and pump manufacturers handbooks)

    TBCU TRAILER MOUNTED BIN CLEANING UNIT Page 23 of 39 Fill the water tank to maximum fill point (200 litres). Close and secure the pump chamber tank lid. Secure any loose equipment, lock all doors and close the side curtains. FILLING THE TANK WITH FRESH WATER The tank is filled by removing the lid on top and using a hose connected to a clean fresh water supply.

Keeping hands and limbs away from the clamp, and ensuring no other person is in the hazard area, locate the bin(s) above the pick-up comb(s) and operate the clamping (CLAMP APPLY) button, holding the button until the clamp is fully engaged to secure the bin.

    TBCU TRAILER MOUNTED BIN CLEANING UNIT Page 25 of 39 When travelling between work sites, secure all loose items, including hose and lance, replace the tank covers and fix the wash collection tray in the down position. On completion of the day’s work (or sooner if conditions require), drain and clean the machine as more fully detailed in section 8.6.3 of this manual.

    TBCU TRAILER MOUNTED BIN CLEANING UNIT Page 26 of 39 8.6.3 AFTER WORK IS COMPLETED It is important that the machine is thoroughly drained down and cleaned after a day’s use. a) Empty water from the main tank by opening the drain valve. b) Remove the filter media and cassette and rinse with fresh water (do not power wash).

The following instructions will be adequate to protect the unit to temperatures down to - 5C. During winter months it is strongly recommended to store the unit inside whenever possible.

MAINTENANCE, SERVICING & ADJUSTMENT 9.1 GENERAL AND SAFETY When maintaining or assembling pressure washing hoses and attachments, it is essential to use the correct size of tools. Tools such as Stillson wrenches should be avoided wherever possible and correctly fitting spanners employed instead.
