    8836363 40-TON HYDRAULIC SHOP PRESS V1.0 PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT Always wear impact safety goggles that provide front and side protection for the eyes. Eye protection equipment should comply with CSA Z94.3-07 or ANSI Z87.1 standards based on the type of work performed.
  • Page 5 V1.0 40-TON HYDRAULIC SHOP PRESS 8836363 Do not use the tool if any parts are damaged, broken or misplaced. Repair or replace the parts. The maximum load is 30 tons. Do not exceed this rated capacity. Never apply excessive force to a workpiece and always use the pressure gauge to accurately determine the applied load.
  • Page 6 8836363 40-TON HYDRAULIC SHOP PRESS V1.0 Install an in-line shutoff valve or regulator to allow immediate control over the air supply in an emergency, even if a hose is ruptured. Discontinue tool use if it does not work properly or air is leaking.
  • Page 7 V1.0 40-TON HYDRAULIC SHOP PRESS 8836363 Do not allow people, mobile equipment or vehicles to pass over the unprotected air hose. Position the air hose away from high traffic areas, in a reinforced conduit or place planks on both sides of the air hose to create a protective trench.
  • Page 8 8836363 40-TON HYDRAULIC SHOP PRESS V1.0 2.1 The maximum load is 40 tons. Never apply excessive force to a workpiece and always use the pressure gauge to accurately determine the applied load. Do not adjust the hydraulic system’s relief setting. The settings are pre-set by the factory.

    8836363 40-TON HYDRAULIC SHOP PRESS V1.0 ASSEMBLY & INSTALLATION Numbered references in parenthesis (#1) refer to the included Parts List. Use the exploded drawing as your guide to assemble. Lay out all parts before beginning. You may need another person to assist during assembly, as components like the ram are heavy.

    V1.0 40-TON HYDRAULIC SHOP PRESS 8836363 Attach the pump body (#29) assembly to the right post using 4 bolts (#27) and 4 washers (#28). Place a washer over the bolt and insert the bolt through post’s strut and screw it into the bolt hole in the pump. Repeat with the other 3 bolts.

    8836363 40-TON HYDRAULIC SHOP PRESS V1.0 2. Turn the release valve assembly (#P30) knob clockwise to firmly close it. 3. Connect the quick coupler-male (#P45) into the air supply. Turn on the air valve (#P44) to let the pump work until serrated saddle (#R15) nears workpiece, then turn off the air valve.

    V1.0 40-TON HYDRAULIC SHOP PRESS 8836363 Maintain the tool’s labels and name plates. These carry important information. If unreadable or missing, contact Princess Auto Ltd. for replacements. HYDRAULIC RAM MAINTENANCE Monthly maintenance is recommended for the hydraulic ram. Any restrictions due to dirt, rust, etc. can cause the either slow movement or extremely rapid jerks, damaging the internal components.
  • Page 14 8836363 40-TON HYDRAULIC SHOP PRESS V1.0 Pump the handle for several full strokes to eliminate any air in the system. 4.1 An alternative is to connect the quick coupler (#P45) to an air source and switch on the air valve (#P44).
  • Page 15 V1.0 40-TON HYDRAULIC SHOP PRESS 8836363 Avoid adding too much air tool oil as this can cause premature power loss and eventual tool failure. A qualified technician will need to take the tool apart and clean out the excess oil.
