I'M WORKING ON AN AIRMAN 185S COMPRESSOR. THE AIR BLOWS FOR A WHILE, BUT WHEN IT GOES TO AN IDLE AND WHEN YOU TRY TO RE-USE THE AIR, IT WILL NOT PRODUCE. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Possible causes for an AirMan PDS185S-6E1 compressor not producing air after idling include:
1. Air Leak in Service Piping – Check for any leaks and repair the piping if necessary. 2. Incorrect Purge Operation Load Factor Setting – If the load factor is set below 15%, adjust it as per section 1.6.2 of the manual. 3. Incorrect Time Setting for Switching to Purge Operation – If the set time is too long, adjust it according to section 1.6.2. 4. Faulty AUTO IDLE Switch or Wiring Issue – Check for disconnected or faulty wiring connections between the emergency controller, auto idle switch, and ground. Repair any issues found. 5. Trouble with Intake Negative Pressure Sensor – If abnormal voltage is detected when the key is ON, replace the sensor (refer to section 3.12).
These checks and adjustments should help diagnose and resolve the issue.

A temporary drop in air pressure that does not return in the AirMan PDS185S-6E1 could be caused by the system entering and remaining in purge mode. This occurs when the intake negative pressure rises above a set value, triggering the solenoid valve to start purge mode. If the solenoid valve fails to turn off due to continuous high air consumption or malfunction, the pressure in the separator receiver tank stays low, reducing compressor power and preventing pressure recovery.
