  • Page 8 GPS186DABX Inserting the CD Player Batteries To insert the batteries: • Turn the CD Player upside down. • Push the battery cover retaining clips in the direction of the arrows as shown below and remove the cover. • Insert eight ‘C’ (LR14) size batteries ensuring you follow the polarity as shown below.

    GPS186DABX What is Digital Radio DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) is the next generation of radio. DAB was developed in Europe by a consortium of broadcasters and manufacturers. DAB uses digital compression tech niques to transform the source material, i.e. music and speech, into di gital code before it is transmitted.

    FM/DAB Radio CD Cassette Recorder Playing the DAB Radio Switching On for the First Time Set the FUNCTION switch to Tuner and press the FM/DAB button to select DAB. When the DAB radio is switched on for the first time, the radio searches for all available digital channels from 11B to 12D.

    GPS186DABX Changing DAB Stations Press the SCROLL button to scroll up or down through the available stations. Th e station names will appea r on the LCD display. When the desired station is displayed, press the SELECT button. The DAB radio will automatically tune to that station.

    Press and hold the MENU button until the following screen is displayed. Release the MENU button. System Reset The LCD display will show GOODMANS and will start to scan for available DAB stations. Once the scan is complete, the DAB radio will automatically tune to the first available station.

    GPS186DABX Changing the DAB Station Information It is possible to change the information that is displayed on the second line of the LCD display when listening to a DAB station. By Pressing DISP button, there are seven different types of information that can be displayed.

    FM/DAB Radio CD Cassette Recorder Manual Tune It is possible to manually tune to a specific channel / frequency and add this to the station list. To manually add a specific channel / frequency to the station list, press and hold the SELECT button. The LCD display changes as shown below: 225.648MHz The first line of LCD display shows the channel and frequency information.

    GPS186DABX If DAB signal is present in this channel, network information will be shown at the second line of the LCD display. 225.648MHz BBC DAB The first service in the network service will be selected. If the SELECT button is pressed, the current service and network service name shall be displayed together with a manual tuning indicator.

    FM/DAB Radio CD Cassette Recorder Channel Information When the unit is tuned to a particular DAB service, the channel information can be displayed by pressing and holding the SELECT button (Manual Tune function).     GPS186DABX Playing the FM Radio To Turn the Radio On Set the FUNCTION switch to Tuner. Press the FM/DAB button to select FM, the display will show the previously set FM frequency. Manual Tune To manually tune to a station press the SCROLL button.

    FM/DAB Radio CD Cassette Recorder Storing FM Presets You can preset up to 10 FM stations for easy access. Tune to the station you wish to preset. Press the PRESET button, the display shows PRESET # EMPTY, in the second line, where # is the preset number. Use the SCROLL button to scroll through the presets.

    GPS186DABX Playing CDs Loading CDs Set the FUNCTION switch to CD. To open the CD compartment lid press the OPEN button. Place the CD in the compartment with the label side facing upwards. Close the compartment lid. When fully closed, the CD Player starts to spin the disc.

    FM/DAB Radio CD Cassette Recorder Pause To stop a track temporarily, press the PLAY/PAUSE button. The disc pauses at the current play position. The current track flashes and the PLAY indicator turns off. To resume play, press the PLAY/PAUSE button again. Programmed Track Selection You can set your CD Player to play a selection of tracks from the CD.

    GPS186DABX Repeat Disc Play You can set the CD Player to repeat play a single track or the programmed track selection. To Repeat a Single Track Press the REVERSE SKIP button or the FORWARD SKIP button to select a track.

    FM/DAB Radio CD Cassette Recorder Using the Cassette Recorder Inserting a Cassette Tape. Press the STOP/EJ button to open the cassette door. Insert your cassette tape into the compartment with the exposed section of the tape facing upwards. The side that you wish to listen to or record onto should be facing towards you.
  • Page 26 GPS186DABX To stop recording, press the STOP/EJ button. NOTE: You will not be able to press RECORD unless there is a cassette tape in the recorder. Similarly you will not be able to press the RECORD button if a pre-recorded cassette tape that has had its tab removed, is inserted.

    GPS186DABX Care and Maintenance Handling and Cleaning CDs To remove a CD from its storage case, press down on the centre of the case and lift the CD out. Hold the CD by the edges, to avoid touching the recorded side of the Fingerprints and dust should be carefully wiped from the CD's surface with a soft cloth.

    FM/DAB Radio CD Cassette Recorder CDs should be returned to their cases after use. This avoids serious scratches that could cause the laser pickup to skip. Do not expose CDs to direct sunlight, high humidity, or high temperatures for extended periods. Exposure to high temperatures can warp the CD.

    GPS186DABX Cassette Tape Care You can help avoid two of the most common problems of cassette usage. • Jamming - which causes uneven playback speed. • Tangling - where the tape wraps itself around the mechanism. To reduce the possibility of these problems occurring, the following precautions should be observed.
  • Page 31 FM/DAB Radio CD Cassette Recorder Preventing Accidental Erasure To Prevent accidental erasure, break off the tab on the rear of the tape as shown below. Recording on the side of the tape is no longer possible. You can make recording possible again by covering the hole with a piece of adhesive tape as shown above right.
