pass a piece
of 1/4 in, thick
wood on edge
(jointing
position)
over cutterhead.
2, The
guard
should
return
automaticall_
to its REST
position
against
the
fence
when
free of
the wood.
3, If guard does not return
to its REST position,
remove
cotter
pin
from
pivot
pin
and remove
guard,
Check
pivot
pin and hole..,
make
sure there
are no burrs,
rust, or other
foreign
matter.
POSITION

4, Apply
a. few drops
of SAE
No.
20 or No, 30 engine
oil to pivot pin,
5. Replace
guard and cotter
pin.
If guard still
does not return
to its REST position;
con-
sult
your
local
Sears
Retail
Store
before
using
the
jointer-planer.
SHARPENING
CUTTER
BLADES
The blades can be honed individually with an ordinary
oilstone.
Make sure your oilstone is not worn in the center. It
must be flat.
Be sure to remove the burr on the flat side.
If the blades are nicked,
they must be replaced or re-
ground, They can be reground several times until they
become 91t6 in. wide. Never install reground blades less
than 9/16 in. wide.
Have your
knives reground
by someone who is com-
petent. Look in the "Yellow
Pages" of your telephone
directOry..,
