Shooting Operation

Shooting Mode

Press the < W > button,
o
then turn the < 6 / 5 > dial.
Turn the < 6 > or < 5 > dial to
o
set the exposure, then shoot.

Set the lens focus mode switch
o
to < f >.
Press the <o> button,
o
then turn the < 6 > dial.
X (One-Shot AF):
For still subjects
Z (AI Servo AF):
For moving subjects
Instead of pressing the shutter button halfway, AF is also
possible by pressing the <p > button.

A Live View Shooting

Select [A 4: LV z /k set.],
o
then press <0>.
Select [Stills], then press <0>.
o
Press the <A> button to
o
display the Live View image on
the LCD monitor.
Press the < W > button and
o
turn the < 6 / 5 > dial to select
the shooting mode.
Press the shutter button
o
halfway. After focus is
achieved, press the shutter
button completely.
Press the <A> button to end
o
the Live View shooting.

AF Area Selection Mode
Press the < S > button.
o
Look through the viewfinder and

press the <B> button.
Each time you press the <B>
X
button, the AF area selection
mode changes.
S AF Point Selection
Press the < S > button, then
o
look through the viewfinder.
The AF point selection will
o
change in the direction you tilt
the <9>. If you press <9>
straight down, the center AF
point (or center Zone) will be
selected.
The < 6 > dial selects an AF
o
point in the horizontal direction,
and the < 5 > dial selects an
AF point in the vertical direction
(toggles between zones in Zone
AF).

k Shooting Movies

Select [ z 4: LV z /k set.],
o
then press <0>.
Select [Movies], then press
o
<0>.
Select [ z 4: Movie rec. size]
o
and set the movie-recording
size, then press <0>.
Press the <A> button to display
o
the movie image on the LCD
monitor.
Autoexposure Shooting
Press the < W > button and
o
turn the < 6 / 5 > dial to select
<d> or <BULB>.
Press the shutter button halfway
o
to focus.
Press the <B> button to start
o
shooting a movie. During movie
shooting, " o " will appear on the
upper right.
To stop shooting the movie,
o
press the <B> button again.
Recording movie
If you set the shooting mode to <s>, <f>, or <a>, you can
o
shoot movies in the respective shooting mode's exposure setting.
You can take a still photo during movie shooting by
o
pressing the shutter button completely.
R : Drive Mode
Press the <o> button,
o
then turn the < 5 > dial.
u : Single shooting
o : High-speed continuous
shooting
p : Low-speed continuous
shooting
k : 10-sec. self-timer
l : 2-sec. self-timer
: Single: Silent shooting

q Metering Mode
Press the < Q > button, then
o
turn the < 6 > dial.
q Evaluative metering:
Standard metering mode
w Partial metering:
Approx. 6.5% at center
r Spot metering:
Approx. 2.5% at center
e Center-weighted average
metering:
Brightness metered at the center
and averaged for the entire scene
When spot metering is set, multi-spot metering is possible
with the <B> button.

O Exposure Compensation

Press the shutter button halfway and
o
Increased exposure
check the exposure level indicator.
Turn the < 5 > dial to set the
o
exposure compensation amount.
You can set the amount up to
o
±5 stops in 1/3-stop increments.
Decreased exposure
To cancel exposure compensation, set
o
the exposure level indicator <n/N> to
the standard exposure index (< a /C>).
To set the exposure compensation
o
while the <a> mode and Auto
ISO are both set, refer to the
Standard exposure index
camera's instruction manual.
Exposure level
If the exposure compensation amount exceeds ±3 stops,
o
setting it with the Quick Control screen is recommended.
You can also set it with the < O > button and < 6 / 5 > dial.
o
For light-colored subjects, set it to the plus side. For
o
dark-colored subjects, set it to the minus side.
A AE Lock
Focus the subject.
o
Press the < A > button to lock
o
the current exposure setting.
The exposure level indicator on
o
the right of the viewfinder will show
the AE lock exposure level and the
current exposure level in real-time.
Recompose and take the picture.
