The Epson XP-7100 does not return the receiver tray when the auto shutoff starts due to a design issue with the tray mechanism. The trays are described as flimsy and difficult to manage, and the printer's connectivity and operational features have been reported as problematic. This suggests the auto shutoff function may not properly trigger the tray to retract.

The rollers on the Epson XP-7100 can be accessed by opening the printer. Specifically, the rubber pickup roller involved in feeding paper is located near the paper feed mechanism. To clean or inspect it, you may need to open the rear paper feed slot or partially disassemble the printer.
