ENGLISH PREPARING FOR USE Machine packaging The original packaging has been designed and constructed to protect the machine during transport. We recommend keeping the packaging material for possible future transport. Machine installation Remove the drip tray with grill from the packaging. Remove the machine from the packaging.

ENGLISH Remove the water tank. Rinse the water tank with fresh water. Fill the water tank with fresh water up to the MAX level and reinsert it into the machine. Make sure it is fully inserted. Caution: Never ll the water tank with warm, hot, sparkling water or any other liquid, as this may cause damage to the water tank and the machine.
ENGLISH Switch the power button to “I” to turn on the machine. The display shows the stand-by icon. To turn on the machine simply press the “ ” button. The display indi- cates that the circuit must be primed. USING THE MACHINE FOR THE FIRST TIME When using the machine for the rst time, the following activities need to happen: 1) You need to prime the circuit;...
ENGLISH Press the “ ” button to start the cycle. The machine starts the auto- matic priming of the circuit by dispensing some water through the steam wand. The bar under the icon shows the operation progress. When the pro- cess is complete, the machine stops dispensing automatically.
ENGLISH Manual rinse cycle During this process you activate the co ee brewing cycle and fresh water ows through the steam/hot water circuit. This takes a few minutes. ENGLISH Press the “ ” button. The following icon is displayed. Press the “ ” button to start dispensing hot water. Dispense water until the no water icon appears. At the end, ll the water tank again up to the MAX level. Now the ma- chine is ready for brewing co ee.
ENGLISH Measuring and programming water hardness Measuring water hardness is very important for de ning the frequency in which the machine has to be descaled and to install the “INTENZA+” water lter (for more detail on the water lter see next chapter). To measure the water hardness follow the steps below: Immerse the water hardness tester strip (supplied with the machine) in water for 1 second.
ENGLISH Press the “ ” button to exit the programming MENU. The machine shows this display and is ready to brew. “INTENZA+” water lter installation We recommend installing the “INTENZA+” water lter as this prevents limescale build-ups and preserves a more intense aroma to your espresso co ee.
ENGLISH Insert the lter into the empty water tank. Press it until it cannot move further down. Fill the water tank with fresh water and reinsert it into the machine. Dispense the entire water tank by using the hot water function (see chapter “Hot water dispensing”).

The machine allows for certain adjustments so that you can brew the best tasting co ee possible. Saeco Adapting System Co ee is a natural product and its characteristics may change according to its origin, blend and roast. The machine is equipped with a self-adjusting system that allows the use of all types of co ee beans available on the market (not for caramelized beans).
ENGLISH Press and turn the grinder adjustment knob one notch at a time. You will taste the di erence after brewing 2-3 cups of co ee. The reference marks inside the co ee bean hopper indicate the grind setting. There are 5 di erent grind settings to choose from position 1 for coarse grind - lighter taste to position 2 for ne grind - bolder taste When you adjust the ceramic co ee grinder to a ner setting, your co ee will taste stronger.
ENGLISH Adjusting the dispensing spout The height of the dispensing spout can be adjusted to better t the dimensions of the espresso cups that you wish to use. Move the dispensing spout up or down with your ngers to adjust its height as shown in the image.
ENGLISH Adjusting the co ee length The machine allows you to adjust the amount of brewed co ee according to your taste and/or the size of your cups. Each time the “ ” or “ ” button is pressed, the machine brews a pre-set amount of co ee.
ENGLISH ESPRESSO AND COFFEE BREWING Before brewing the co ee, make sure that there are no warnings shown on the display, and that the water tank and co ee bean hopper are lled. Espresso and Co ee brewing using co ee beans Place 1 or 2 cups under the dispensing spout.
ENGLISH Espresso and Co ee brewing using pre-ground co ee This function allows you to use pre-ground and deca einated co ee. With the pre-ground co ee function you can only brew one co ee at a time. Press the “ ”...
ENGLISH CAPPUCCINO BREWING Warning: Danger of scalding! Dispensing may be preceded by small jets of hot water. The Automatic Milk Frother may reach high temperatures. Never touch it with bare hands. Use the appropriate protective handle only. Fill 1/3 of a container with cold milk. Note: use cold (~5°C / 41°F) milk with a protein content of at least 3% to ensure optimum results when preparing a cappuccino.

ENGLISH Insert the suction tube in the milk container. Caution: for hygienic reasons, make sure that the suction tube is clean on the outside. Place a cup under the Automatic Milk Frother. Press the “ ” button. The following icon is displayed. Press the “ ”...
ENGLISH For storage you can put the suction tube as shown in the picture. Note: After having pressed the “ ” button it will take a few seconds before the machine stops dispensing steam completely. Caution: Each time after frothing the milk you need to dispense a small amount of hot water into a container.

ENGLISH CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE Daily cleaning of the machine. Caution: Timely cleaning and maintenance of your machine is very important as it prolongs the life of your machine. Your machine gets exposed to moisture, co ee and limescale continuously! In this chapter it is described in detail which activities you need to perform at which frequency.
ENGLISH Empty and clean the drip tray. Perform this operation also when the full drip tray indicator is raised. Daily cleaning of the Water Tank Remove the small white lter or the INTENZA+ water lter (if installed) from the water tank and wash the tank with fresh water. Put the small white lter back or the INTENZA+ water lter (if installed) in its housing by gently pressing and turning it at the same time.
ENGLISH Place an empty container under the Automatic Milk Frother. Press the “ ” button. This icon will be displayed. Press the “ ” button to select steam. The following icon may be displayed during the preheating time required by the machine. The following icon will be displayed during the dispensing phase.
ENGLISH Weekly cleaning of the brew group The brew group should be cleaned every time the co ee bean hopper is lled or at least once a week. Turn o the machine by pressing the “ ” button and remove the plug from the socket.

ENGLISH Let the brew group air-dry thoroughly. Thoroughly clean the inside of the machine using a soft, dampened cloth. Make sure the brew group is in the rest position; the two reference signs must match. If they do no match, proceed as described in steps 9-10.
Monthly cleaning of the Automatic Milk Frother Every month you need to perform a more thorough cleaning of the Auto- matic Milk Frother using the milk circuit cleaning system “Saeco Milk Circuit Cleaner”. You can purchase separately the “Saeco Milk Circuit Cleaner”.

ENGLISH Remove the suction tube. To detach the Automatic Milk Frother, press the sides and remove it by applying light lateral movements as shown in the gure. Remove the rubber cover as shown in the picture. Wash all the parts with lukewarm water. Note: These components can also be put into the dishwasher for cleaning.

ENGLISH Attach the Automatic Milk Frother to the tting and ensure it is locked into place in the seat. Install the suction tube. Reinsert the rubber grip on the steam wand. Insert the Automatic Milk Frother until it locks in place on the rubber grip.
Lubricate the brew group after approximately 500 cups of co ee or once a month. You can purchase the Saeco grease, used to lubricate the brew group, separately. Please refer to the maintenance product page in this user manual for further details.
The “Co ee Oil Remover” tablets are to be used for cleaning only and do not have a descaling function. For the descaling procedure use the Saeco descaling solution and follow the procedure described in the “Descaling” chapter. Place a container under the dispensing spout.

ENGLISH Put a “Co ee Oil Remover” tablet in the pre-ground co ee compart- ment. Press the “ ” button one or more times to select the pre-ground cof- fee function, without adding ground co ee. Press the “ ” button to start a co ee brewing cycle. Wait until the machine has dispensed half a cup of water.
ENGLISH Wash the brew group thoroughly with fresh water. After rinsing the brew group, insert it again in its seat until it locks into place (see “Weekly cleaning of the brew group” chapter). Insert the cof- fee residues drawer and the co ee grounds drawer. Close the service door.
Not doing this will ultimately make your machine stop working prop- erly, and in this case repairing is NOT covered by your warranty. Always use Saeco descaling product only, since it has been designed to optimize machine performance. You can purchase separately the SAECO decalci er. Please refer to the maintenance product page in this user manual for further details.

Empty the container and place it back under the dispensing spout. When the amount of water needed for the rinse cycle has been completely dispensed, this icon on the side is displayed.
ENGLISH PROGRAMMING The user can change some of the machine operating parameters to suit his/her needs. Adjustable parameters Co ee temperature This function allows you to adjust the co ee brewing temperature. Timer (stand-by) This function allows you to adjust the time the machine will go into stand- by mode after the last brewing.

The icons are colour-coded according to the tra c light principle. Ready Signals (Green Colour) The machine is ready to brew products. The machine is ready to brew pre-ground co ee.

These problems can be considered normal if the co ee blend has been changed or if the machine has just been installed. In this case wait until the machine performs a self-adjusting operation as described in section "Saeco Adapting System".
ENGLISH ENERGY SAVING Stand-by The Saeco full automatic espresso machine is designed for energy saving- proven by the Class A energy label. After 30 minutes of inactivity, the machine turns o automatically. If a product has been brewed the machine performs a rinsing cycle.
