Some of the older machining centers with the early 5000M CNC controls have the LDU TR axis
drive system. The TR stands for Transistor. This drive system utilizes PWM technology. PWM
stands for Pulse Width Modulation. The width or duration of the pulse is proportional to the
amplitude of the incoming DA signal at the pre-determined sampling time. A block diagram of
the LDU TR system is shown below.
