Press [DOWN] + [PAGE] to activate FILL mode for one pattern cycle. It will become active when the
pattern loops, and remain active until it loops again. You can also activate FILL mode at any time, and for
any duration, by pressing and holding the [UP] + [PAGE] keys when the pattern is playing. The FILL mode
is active for as long as the keys are held. If you want to latch FILL mode, press [UP] + [DOWN] + [PAGE].
Press [UP] + [PAGE] to unlatch FILL mode.
12.14 SCALE SETUP
Here the general length and timing of a pattern is set. Access the SCALE SETUP menu by pressing [FUNC]
+ [PAGE]. This menu will look different depending on whether NORMAL or PER TRACK is active. These
settings are made in the PATTERN SETTINGS menu. Please see section "12.10 PATTERN SETTINGS
MENU" on page 73. Use the [LEFT] and [RIGHT] arrow keys to select between the available settings.
The [UP] and [DOWN] arrow keys or the LEVEL knob adjust the settings.
12.14.1 NORMAL
This is the default mode. In this mode all tracks of the pattern have the same length and time signature.
This screen will appear when the NORMAL setting, in the PATTERN SETTINGS menu, is active for all tracks.
PATTERN SCALE sets the number of steps in a pattern and thus the total amount of pattern pag-
es. The leftmost number selects the number of steps in the pattern. The maximum number of steps
available to the pattern is determined by the total length, set by the rightmost parameter. This can be
either 16, 32, 48 or 64 steps. If 17 steps or more are used in a pattern, the [PAGE] key is while in GRID
RECORDING mode used to toggle the focus between the different pattern pages.
TEMPO MULTIPLIER offers seven possible settings, 1/8X, 1/4X, 1/2X, 3/4X, 1X, 3/2X and 2X. A setting
of 1/8X will play back the pattern at one-eighth of the original tempo. 3/4X plays the pattern back at
three-quarters of the global tempo. 3/2X will play back the pattern twice as fast as the 3/4X setting.
2X will make the pattern play at twice the BPM. Double speed is useful for increasing the base reso-
lution of the step sequencer to 32nd notes. Three quarter-speed is useful when the Octatrack MKII
is playing alongside other instruments set to the same BPM and you want the Octatrack MKII to play
triplets.
Trigs are automatically copied when extending the length of a pattern. If a pattern con-
sists of for example two pages and the pattern length is increased to four pages, the
two added pattern pages will be copies of the first two pattern pages. This functionality
can be turned off in the PERSONALIZE menu. For more information please see "8.5.4
PERSONALIZE" on page 33.
Press the [PAGE] key for quickly changing the total length of the pattern. Press the
[TRIG] keys to quickly change the number of steps of the pattern.
12.14.2 PER TRACK
In this mode the tracks of the pattern can have individual length and time signature settings. This screen
will appear when the PER TRACK setting, found in the PATTERN SETTINGS menu, is active.
SCALE TRACK sets the length of the active track. The setting works in a similar way to the corre-
sponding setting in NORMAL mode.
TEMPO MULTIPLIER controls the playback speed of the active track. The available settings are the
same as those in NORMAL mode.
