    Models STAREX004W-64 or STAREX008W-64 iSTAR eX ships with a PMB (Power Management Board), which is mounted inside the iSTAR eX enclosure. The iSTAR eX GCM gets power from the PMB and communicates with the PMB over a Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) bus.

    An I/8 Module must be installed in an RM-DCM- I8 or RM-CAN enclosure up to 4000 feet (1212 meters) from the iSTAR eX controller and wired via an RS-485 bus connection. The I/8 Module power requirement is 125 mA at 12 VDC.

    An input is a software object that associates a security device, such as an alarm switch, with an input on iSTAR eX or on an input module board. An input reports the state of the switch. All inputs can be in one of two states: active or inactive.

    Connections Outputs An output is a software object that associates an event or input with a relay on iSTAR eX or add-on module. The relay then activates or deactivates devices, such as flood lights and alarm devices. Readers Direct connect Wiegand signaling read heads can be connected to the GCM connector.

    The following sections describe the configuration and diagnostic tools available for iSTAR eX hardware. The ICU lets you set the initial parameters for iSTAR eX controllers.     A micro controller operates the PMB and communicates with the iSTAR eX GCM via SPI. Battery power will be supplied to all iSTAR eX circuit boards, peripherals, and readers, enabling the system to be fully functional under battery power.

    Tools Power Supply The iSTAR eX panel uses a UL Recognized ESD, Model SPS 6.5 power supply (12V, 6.5 amps). NOTE Not applicable for the NPS version. Power Supply/Battery Switch-over Circuitry This circuitry monitors the AC power input. If the AC power fails, the battery will power the system.

    The heartbeat LED is connected to a port line of the micro controller and indicates that the firmware is running. Standby Battery iSTAR eX supports the use of a 12 VDC, 17.2 Ah minimum capacity standby battery. Battery Operating and Charging Time The battery will keep a typical system operational for a minimum of 4 hours, and the battery will be fully recharged in 24 hours or less.

    RAM to the Compact Flash card. During restoration, iSTAR eX writes the data from the Compact Flash card to RAM. iSTAR eX maintains the last two backups of the data. Each backup stores its write time. When iSTAR eX does perform a backup, it overwrites the older backup.

    “Real Time Clock” alive in the absence of AC power or battery power for up to six days. iSTAR eX checks the Real Time Clock on start up. If it determines that the Real Time Clock lost power, data will not be restored.

You must understand iSTAR eX topology and customer requirements to ensure the correct layout, connections, and configuration of iSTAR eX components.

    Lan and Wan Configurations The TCP/IP protocol transfers data across a number of networks. Because iSTAR eX controllers use the TCP/IP protocol for network communications, they can communicate with each other even when controllers are located on different networks separated by other network platforms, as shown in Figure 2.1.

    Although it is not required, System Managers who want to maintain local address management can configure iSTAR eX with locked IP addresses. Locked IP addresses retain the iSTAR eX address that is specified locally or by a local Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server. When IP addresses are locked, iSTAR eX communicates across gateways using only the IP address that you configure: translated addresses are not accepted.
