EMBER REMOTE CONTROL
The EMBER protocol is a
sophisticated data exchange
mechanism that has potential for
controlling many functions across
varied equipment types.
EMBERcontrolhasbeenincorporated
intoCalrec'sproductrangetoallow
remotecontrolfunctionalityoverboth
mixingconsoles,andthewiderHydra2
network.
Currently,Calrechavetested,andhave
userson-airwiththefollowingEMBER
controllers:
• L-S-BVSM
• CollediaBNCS
Pleaserefertotherelevant
manufacturer'sguidanceforspecific
informationrelatingtotheirproducts.
Currently,EMBERhastheabilitytocontrol
thefollowingfeatureswhenconnectedto
aCalrecHydra2network:
• Loadingofshowsandusermemories
ontocontrolsurfaces.
• Inputportsettings-micinputgain,mic
inputphantompowerswitchingand
SRCswitchingondigitalinputs.
• ViewandedittheH20basedHydra2
I/Oboxandportlabels.
• InsertingSMPTE2020metadata
intoHydra2SDIembedderoutputs—
Metadatasetscanbeuploadedand
editedusingtheH20application.
EMBERcontrollerscanselectany
oftheavailablemetadatasetsfor
insertionto,orremovalfromanyofthe
SDIembedderoutputsonthenetwork.

muteanyoftheaudiochannelswithin
theSDIoutputsofHydra2embedders.

supportEMBERconnections.AnEMBER
connectionmadetothenetwork'sMaster
RouterhasaccesstoalloftheI/Oand
mixingconsolesontheHydra2network.
Ifrequired,othercontrollerscanbe
connectedtothesameRJ45onthe
routeratthesametime,byusingan
externalEthernetswitch/hub.
TherearpanelEthernetconnectorsuse
astandardEthernetpin-outandpasses
dataviaTCP/IP.ScreenedCat5ecabling
shouldbeusedtoensureperformancein
electricallynoisyenvironments.
For3rdpartycontrollersthatpass
EMBERdataoverRS232/RS422,
serialtoTCP/IPconversionisrequired.
Converterunits,suchasthePerleIOLAN
canbesuppliedbyCalrec.

Brio36Connectionconfiguration

The3rdpartyEMBERcontrollerwill
needtobeconnectedviaoneofthetwo
ethernetportsandmustbeconfigured
fromtheLANConfigurationpagein
SystemSettings.
In addition to the IP address, the
system will need to be configured to
use TCP socket port 62000.
Controlconfigurationandenabling
Withavalidconnectionmade,all
parametersaccessibletoEMBERare
madeavailable.NofurtherCalrec
configurationisrequired.
Brio36userscanenableordisable
EMBERcontrollersfrombeingableto
changetheircontrolsurfaceshows/user
memoryfromtheBrio36touchscreen
interface.
