Replacing a controller module

Prerequisites

Verify the status of the controller module.
IMPORTANT:
As soon as you have verified that you must replace the controller, contact Hewlett Packard
Enterprise support. You cannot replace both controllers at the same time. One controller must be
functioning for failover.
Verify that the volumes and snapshots are not restriping.
Back up your data.
Fail over the storage controller from the Storage Systems pane in the StoreVirtual Management Console.
See the HPE StoreVirtual 3200 Online Help for more information.
NOTE:
Ensure that the controller taking over all activities is fully functional. A controller replacement can be
done online, but there is reduced system performance. If performing the replacement online, Hewlett
Packard Enterprise strongly recommends doing so during a time of low activity.

Removing a controller module

Procedure
1. (Optional) If you choose to perform the replacement offline, first shut down the failed controller using the
Recovery/Power button. Then, shut down the other controller.
2. Unplug all cables from the controller module.
a. Do not unplug the power cables if performing a hot or warm swap.
b. If SAS cables are being used to connect enclosures and you must disconnect from the affected
enclosure, be sure that you do not remove both SAS cables at the same time. At least one SAS cable
must be connected to the component to ensure access continues to the drives in the enclosure.
3. Loosen the captive retaining thumbscrew (1) and swing out the controller module handle (2).
