TAKING PHOTOGRAPHS WITH THE SELF-TIMER
You can use the self-timer to take a picture with a delay of either 2
or 12s. This is particularly useful for group photographs, where you
want to appear in the picture yourself or if you want to avoid the
picture being out of focus due to camera shake when releasing the
shutter. In such cases we recommend that the camera is placed on
a tripod.
Setting / using the function
1. In the menu's
CAMERA
2. in the submenu, the desired delay time.
3. To start the process, press the shutter release button all the
way down (see also "Shutter release button", p. 204).
Note:
During the countdown, you can restart the delay time, i.e. extend
it, by pressing the shutter release button again.

Process
With 2s delay time:
Exposure metering is carried out first, in autofocus mode the focus
is set. The delay time then begins.
With 12s delay time:
The delay time begins immediately after the shutter release button
is pressed.
Exposure metering and autofocus operation - if set - takes place 2s
before the picture is taken.
Displays/Indications
The elapsed delay time is indicated:
– on the monitor/in the viewfinder by the display
and a countdown of the remaining time until the picture is taken.
– By the LED on the front of the camera. It flashes quickly during a
2s delay. During a 12s delay, it flashes slowly for the first 10s,
and then quickly for the last 2s.
– If acoustic signals are turned on (see p. 189), beeps sound in
the same rythm.
