Why my triumph doesn’t start

Your Triumph Trophy may not start due to one or more of the following reasons:
1. Clutch Lever Not Pulled: Triumph motorcycles have a safety switch in the clutch perch. You must pull the clutch lever in before starting.
2. Sprag Clutch Failure: If the engine turns over but doesn't start and makes unusual noises, the sprag clutch may have failed. This is a serious issue requiring engine removal and is costly to repair.
3. Electrical Relay Issue: A no-start condition with working dash lights may be due to a disconnected or faulty low-wattage relay or starter solenoid. A loose or disconnected wire from the starter solenoid (located near the battery) can prevent starting.
4. Old Spark Plugs: Worn or fouled spark plugs can prevent the engine from starting. Replacing them may help.
5. Choke/Flooding: Improper choke use or repeated failed starts may flood the engine, making it harder to start.
Check each of these areas to identify the cause of the issue.

1991 Triumph Daytona 900; the gear neutral light is dim/flickering/dead and the engine is not starting.
The neutral switch on the engine works OK: when the engine is in neutral the resistance is zero, and when in gear the resistance is infinite.
When the clutch is released the starter motor is turning over and when I pull the clutch completely the starter motor is also turning. However, when I pull the clutch half in the starter motor does not turn.
When I 'jiggle' the clutch while pressing the starter button I hear the relay clicking on and off, and the neutral indicator light sometimes flickers dimly, sometimes come on shortly but mostly stays dead.
Does this indicate a faulty clutch switch that is preventing the bike from starting? This clutch switch has 3 wires: black, red/black and yellow/black but I cannot find any wiring diagram for this 1991 Daytona 900 to solve my problem.... WHere can I get a new 3-wire clutch switch for this old bike?
Need help?
