  • Page 5 This guide provides instructions to upgrade your Dell PowerEdge 4350 system to a Dell PowerEdge 6350 system. Only trained service technicians should perform this upgrade; however, customers can perform the software upgrade discussed in this guide. The components that you need to upgrade the system include:...
  • Page 6 System rack kits are intended to be installed in a Dell rack by trained service tech- nicians. If you install the kit in any other rack, be sure that the rack meets the specifications of a Dell rack.

  • Page 8 Unpack the upgrade components. Check and verify the physical condition of all upgrade components. Verify that the system to be upgraded is a PowerEdge 4350 system. Before you remove the computer covers, perform the following steps in the sequence indicated.
  • Page 9 Hold a card by its edges or by its metal mounting bracket. Hold a component such as a processor chip by its edges, not by its pins. To remove the PowerEdge 4350 system from its rack, perform the following steps: Turn off the system.

  • Page 25 The system board contains seven PCI expansion-card connectors—three 32-bit slots and four 64-bit slots (see Figure 14). Connectors PCI1 through PCI3 support 32-bit PCI cards, and PCI4 through PCI7 support 32-bit and 64-bit PCI cards. All slots support full-length expansion cards.   • Page 26 Industry-Standard Architecture (ISA) expansion cards cannot be installed in a PowerEdge 6350 system. A Dell Remote Assistant Card, version 2.0, must be installed in PCI slot 3. PCI video expansion cards should be installed in one of the three primary PCI slots (PCI1, PCI2, or PCI3).
  • Page 27 NOTE: Install a filler bracket over an empty expansion slot to maintain Federal Com- munications Commission (FCC) certification of the system.   • Page 29 The Asset Tag utility allows you to enter a unique asset tag number that you or your organization assign to the system for the new system board. For information on running this utility, refer to Chapter 2, “Using the Dell Server Assistant CD,” in the system’s User’s Guide .
  • Page 30 Reinstall Windows NT 4.0. Purchase the Windows NT 4.0 Resource Kit, and call Dell Server Support at 800-967-1068 for assistance with installing the UPTOMP utility. If your system is running the Novell NetWare 4.1 x operating system, perform the following steps to update the system: At the server console, type load install.
