friction surfaces. In some situations, however, system in-
tervention may increase your braking distance. Always
adapt your riding style to the present environmental con-
ditions and your personal cycling abilities.
WARNING – reckless riding
u
The presence of the ABS does not absolve the rider of the
need to exercise due caution. The system is primarily de-
signed to provide an additional safeguard in emergency
situations. The rider is always responsible for adapting
their riding style to the situation on the road.
WARNING – braking around corners
u
The ABS is a safety system that reduces the risk of the
wheels locking. There is an inherently greater risk of fall-
ing when braking around corners. The rider is always re-
sponsible for adapting their riding style to the situation on
the road.
WARNING – ABS intervention is limited.
u
In extreme riding situations, the ABS may not be able to
control the eBike all the way through to a complete stop.
The ABS function can be re-enabled for braking by briefly
releasing the front-wheel brake. Always adapt your riding
style to the present environmental conditions and your
personal cycling abilities.
WARNING – eBike pitchover
u
The ABS is not always able to prevent the eBike pitching
over in extreme riding situations (e.g. when carrying a
heavy bag with a high centre of gravity or the eBike having
a high centre of gravity, e.g. due to the saddle being set
high as a result of a small frame, or variations in the road
surface or steep descents). Always adapt your riding style
to the present environmental conditions and your per-
sonal cycling abilities.
WARNING – air in the hydraulic system
u
If air gets into the brake system, the function and use-
fulness of the ABS is significantly impaired. The air in
the system means that less braking force can be built
up, especially following intervention by the ABS, in
which the brake lever also moves a little closer to the
handlebars. There is an additional risk of crushing to
fingers that are not wrapped around the brake lever
and remain on the handle while braking. Before every
journey, you should therefore apply the brake to check
whether there is a clearly noticeable pressure point and
whether there is sufficient clearance between the brake
lever and the handlebar grip. The pressure point should
be at approximately 1/3 of the brake lever travel. In case
of doubt, set the brake lever to the maximum possible
length of travel. If air finds its way into the brake system,
please have it bled by a professional. Always adapt your
riding style to the present environmental conditions and
your personal cycling abilities.
WARNING – check the ABS control unit
u
Before every journey, check that the ABS control unit is
fitted securely to the fork. If the ABS control unit comes
loose, it may fall into the spokes and cause an accident.
WARNING – limited function during software updates
u
The ABS may be deactivated and there may be no indica-
tion from the ABS indicator light during software updates.

We do not recommend riding your eBike during software
updates.
CAUTION – damage to components or risk of crushing
u
Take care not to trap components such as brake lines,
cable harnesses or parts of the body between the ABS
control unit and the frame. This will help prevent damage
to components and bodily injury, even in the event of the
handlebars fully locking.
NOTE – do not allow brake fluid to come into contact
u
with the control unit.
When servicing the ABS, make sure that the ABS control
unit does not come into contact with brake fluid. If the
ABS control unit comes into contact with brake fluid, cor-
rect operation over the entire service life cannot be guar-
anteed. In such cases, clean the ABS control unit of the
brake fluid as quickly as possible. Servicing and repairs
must only be carried out by professionals.
Privacy notice
When you connect the eBike to the Bosch DiagnosticTool 3
or replace eBike components, technical information about
your eBike (e.g. manufacturer, model, bike ID, configuration
data) and the eBike usage (e.g. total riding time, energy con-
sumption, temperature) is transferred to Bosch eBike Sys-
tems (Robert Bosch GmbH) for the purposes of processing
your inquiry, servicing and product improvement. You can

Product Description and
Specifications
Intended Use
The Bosch eBike ABS (ABS = Anti-Blocking System) of the
system generation the smart system helps riders to slow
down in a more controlled and stable manner. Thanks to the
combination of the front wheel ABS and the rear wheel lifting
control, the ABS makes cycling safer. During hard braking
manoeuvres, the braking pressure of the front brake is con-
trolled and therefore stabilises the riding situation. The ABS
must not be modified or removed.

The numbering of the components shown refers to the illus-
trations on the graphics pages at the beginning of the
