Charging
The generator's engine has an approximate 3-amp charging system
to charge the battery while the engine is running. If the generator is
only used periodically, the battery must be charged monthly to
maintain the battery service life.
A lead acid battery self discharges at a rate of 0.5 1.0% per day. This
means that the battery, if the generator is not operated in a month,
can discharge as much as 30% in the same period. This could cause
the engine not to crank or shorten the service life of the battery. To
charge the battery, follow the procedures below.
The battery is rated at 24AH (ampere-hours)/5 HR. 10% of the ampere-
hour rating should be used as the charging current. A battery charger
should be used that can be adjusted to deliver 2.4 amps.
The battery gives off explosive gasses; keep sparks, flames and
cigarettes away from the battery while charging. Provide adequate
ventilation when charging.
1.
Remove the front cover and the battery (see page 52 ).
2.
Remove the battery cell caps.
3.
Connect the battery changer following the manufacturer's
instructions.
4.

5.
After the battery is charged, inspect the electrolyte level in each of
the cells. Add distilled water as necessary (see page 54 ).
6.
Install the battery cell caps.
7.
