Get Started The following topics give you all the information you need to set up your phone and Sprint service the first time. Your Phone at a Glance The following illustration outlines your phone’s primary features. Set Up Your Phone Before using your new phone, you must install and charge the battery. Prior to use, it is necessary to install an optional memory card (not included) and the battery. Note: Your phone’s battery should have enough charge to turn the phone on and find a signal, complete the setup wizard, set up voicemail, and make a call. You should fully charge the battery as soon as possible. Remove the Back Cover 1. Remove the back cover using the slot on the top of your phone. Get Started...
Page 14 2. Carefully lift the cover. Warning: Do not bend or twist the back cover excessively. Doing so may damage the cover. Install a Memory Card (Optional) You can use an optional microSD or microSDHC memory card (not included) to expand available memory space. Carefully slide the memory card into the memory card socket (as shown) until the card locks into place. Make sure that the card’s gold contacts face into the phone and that the card is positioned as shown. Get Started...
Page 15 Install the Battery Insert the battery, aligning the gold contacts on the battery with the gold contacts on the phone, and gently press the battery into place. Replace the Back Cover Replace the battery compartment cover, making sure all the tabs are secure and there are no gaps around the cover. Charge the Battery For fastest charging times, use the Adaptive Fast Charging charger that came with your phone. This charger provides faster charging only when connected to devices that have Adaptive Fast Charging. Get Started...

1. Plug the USB cable into the USB Charger/Accessory Port on the bottom of the phone. 2. Plug the other end of the USB cable into the Adaptive Fast Charging charger, and then plug the Charging Head into an electrical outlet to charge your battery. Activate Your Phone Follow the instructions below to activate your phone if it has not already been activated. Depending on your account or how and where you purchased your phone, it may be ready to use or you may need to activate it on your Sprint account. If you purchased your phone at a Sprint Store, it is probably activated and ready to use. If you received your phone in the mail and it is for a new Sprint account or a new line of service, it is designed to activate automatically. When you turn the phone on for the first time, you should see a Hands Free Activation screen, which may be followed by a PRL Update, a Restart screen, and a Firmware Update screen. Follow the onscreen instructions to continue. If you received your phone in the mail and you are activating a new phone for an existing number on your account (you’re swapping phones), you can activate on your computer online or directly on your phone. Activate on your computer: Go to sprint.com/activate and complete the online instructions to activate your phone. Activate on your phone: Turn on your new phone. After you turn on your phone and activate it, your phone displays a Welcome screen. From the Welcome screen follow the prompts to set up features and preferences on your phone. Note: In some cases, you may be able to complete the setup process before your phone has been activated on your Sprint account. 1. At the Welcome screen, select a language and tap Start. 2. Follow the onscreen instructions to configure your phone’s basic options, such Wi-Fi connections, EULA & Diagnostic Data, location settings, etc. Google Account: Many of your phone’s applications, such as Gmail, Hangouts, and the Google Play Store, require a Google Account. To use these applications, you must set up your Google Account on your phone. Complete the steps to sign in to your current Google Account, or sign up for a new Google Account. Samsung Account: Your Samsung Account is used for access to Samsung apps and services, such as Samsung Hub, Samsung Apps, Samsung Link, and much more. Complete the steps to sign in to your current Samsung Account, or sign up for a new Samsung Account. 3. Tap Finish to complete setup. You may see a series of informational or update screens. Follow the prompts to continue. Note: During or after setup, you may see a Connections Optimizer notice. Read the notice and then tap I agree to allow your phone to connect automatically to the best available data network, including Wi-Fi. Proximity Sensors: Detect the presence of objects near the phone, such as when using air gestures or motion settings. Back Key: Returns to the previous screen, or close a dialog box, options menu, the Notification Panel, or onscreen keyboard. Home Key/Finger Scanner: Returns to the Home screen. The Home Key can also act as a fingerprint scanner for security (unlock) and other applications. Recent Apps Key: Displays a list of apps you’ve used recently. Press and hold to configure the Home screen. Volume Key: Adjusts the volume of your phone’s sounds. From the Home screen, press to adjust master volume. During calls or playback, press to adjust volume. Press to mute the ringtone of an incoming call. LED Indicator: Glows or blinks in different colors to show status when the screen is turned off. The LED glows red when charging, and blinks red when the battery is low; blinks blue when there’s a new notification, or when you are recording voice with the screen turned off; and glows green when the battery is fully charged and the phone is attached to a charger. Turn the Phone On Press and hold the Power/Lock key. Turn the Phone Off 1. Press and hold the Power/Lock key to display the Device options menu. 2. Tap Power off > Power off to turn the phone off. The screen remains blank while your phone is off. If the phone is off during charging, the screen displays a charging animation. Turn Your Screen On and Off Your phone allows you to quickly turn the screen off when not in use and to turn it back on and unlock it when you need it. Turn the Screen Off When Not in Use To quickly turn the screen off, press the Power/Lock key. Pressing the Power/Lock key again will turn on the screen and display the lock screen. To save battery power, the phone automatically turns off the screen (times out) after a certain period of time when you leave it idle. You will still be able to receive messages and calls while the phone’s screen is off.

While dragging, do not release your finger until you have reached the target position. Flick Flicking the screen is similar to swiping, except that you need to swipe your finger in light, quick strokes. Page 26 Rotate For most screens, you can automatically change the screen orientation from portrait to landscape by turning the phone sideways. When entering text, you can turn the phone sideways to bring up a bigger keyboard. Note: You can control screen rotation with the Screen rotation setting. Pinch and Spread “Pinch” the screen using your thumb and forefinger to zoom out or “spread” the screen to zoom in when viewing a picture or a Web page. To view notifications, open the Notification Panel by touching and holding the Status Bar and dragging it down. 1. Swipe right or left to switch between panels. 2. Swipe down to view the Quick Tools. 3. Swipe up to access settings (only when the screen is unlocked). Customize Edge Screen App Shortcuts You can choose the apps you want to display in the Edge screen. Tap Favorite Apps to display the apps tray on the main screen to edit your Edge screen. To remove an app from the Edge screen, tap and drag it off of the tray. To add an app to the Edge screen, tap and drag it to the tray. To relocate an app, tap and drag it to a new location. Edge Screen Quick Tools You can quickly use preset tools on your Edge screen without disrupting your activity on the main screen. 1. Swipe down from the top of the Edge screen. 2. Select from the following tools: Ruler: Use the Edge screen as a ruler. Tap the ruler, and then tap cm to change from centimeters to inches or inches to change from inches to centimeters. Stopwatch: Count down with the Edge screen. Tap Start to begin the countdown. Tap Stop to end the time, or Lap to keep the record and immediately start a new record. Milk Exclusive to Galaxy owners, Milk Music is a radio service that gives you more of the music you love, curated by top DJs and industry pros and all for free. Bluetooth Bluetooth is a short-range communications technology that allows you to connect wirelessly to a number of Bluetooth phones, such as headsets and hands-free car kits, and Bluetooth-enabled handhelds, computers, printers, and wireless phones. The Bluetooth communication range is usually approximately 30 feet. Turn Bluetooth On or Off When Bluetooth is on, you can scan and find other Bluetooth devices for share data. Turn Bluetooth off when not in use to conserve battery power. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Bluetooth. 2. Tap the ON/OFF switch to turn Bluetooth on or off. Set Network Mode Options In order to roam internationally on different types of network technology (CDMA/LTE and GSM/UMTS), you may need to set your phone’s network mode to allow use of a specific technology. Once set, your phone is designed to enter global roaming mode automatically when you activate your Sprint Worldwide service, meaning that it should automatically connect to an appropriate CDMA/LTE or GSM/UMTS network when you travel.
