_WARNING
At the time of manufacturethis water heater was provided
with a combination temperature.pressures raliofvalvecertified
by a nationallyrecognized testing laboratorythat maintains
.p_'odic inspection of production of listedequipmentor mete-
rmals, a s meeting the requirements for Relief Valves and
AutomaticGasShutoff D evices for Hot Water Supply Systems,
and the latest edition of ANSI Z21.22 and the code require-
!mentsof ASME. If replaced, the valvemust meet the require-
menu ofIoealcodes, but not lessthana combination tempera-
ture and pressure relief valvecertifiedas meetingthe require-
mentsfor ReliefValvesand AutomaticGasShutoff Devices for
Hot Water Supply Systems, ANSI Z21.22bya nationally recog-
nizad testing laboratorythat mmntains periodicinspection of
production of listedequipment or materials.
The valvemust he markedwith a maximum sat pressure loot
to exceedthe marked hydrostaticworking pressureof the
water heater(IS0 II_J_, in.) and a discharge c apacity not less
thanthe water heater inputrate asshown on the modelrating
plate. (Electric heaters• watts dividedby 1000x 3415 equal
BTU/Hr.rate.)
Yourlocaljurisdictional anthori_, whilemandating the useofa
temperature-pressure relief valvecomplying with ANSI Z21.22
and ASME, may require a valvemodeldifferentfrom the one
fomishedwith the wakerheater.
Compliance with suchlocalrequirements mustbe satisfied by
the installeror end userof the water heaterwith a locally pre-
scribed temperature-pressure relief valveinstalled in the desig.
nated opening in the water heater in placeof the factory fur-
nisbedvalve,
Forsafe operationofthe water heater,the reliefvalvemustnot

The Discharge Pipe:
• Mustnot be smallerin sizethan the outlet pipesize of the
valve,or haveanyreducing couplings o r otherrestrictions.
• Mustnet be plugged or blocked.
• Mustbe ofmateriallistedfor hot water distribution.
I. Must be installedso as to allowcompletedrainageof both
the temperature.pressurerelief valve, and the discharge
pipe.
• Mustterminateat an adequate drain.
• Mustnot haveanyvalvebetweenthe reliefvalveand tank.
AWARNING
The temperature-pressure relief valve must be manually
operated at least once a yea_ Caution shouldbe taken to
ensurethat (I) no one is in front of or aroundthe outlet of
the temperature-pressure relief valvedischarge line, and (2)
the water manually dischargedwill not causeany bodily
injury or property damage because the water may be
extremely hot.
If after manuallyoperating the valve, it failsto completely
resetand continuesto releasewater,immediatelydose the
cold water inlet to the water heater, follow the draining
instructions,and replace the temperature-pressure relief
valvewith a newone.
