SERVICE AIR CLEANER
Your engine
is
equipped wi

h a dry type air
cleoner and
must be pe riodically
removed
and
cleaned
to maintain
maximum
engine pe
rform-
ance.
To clean,
loosen thumb screw thot hol ds ai
r f
ilte
r
cover to
bracket.
Lift cover from bracket,
t hen
proceed
as follows:
Pull
element
from brocket.

lightly to dislodge accumulat-
ed dirt and
brush d
irt
from e
lement
. Do
not wash
element
in gasoline or other sol·
vent,
C lean the
cove
r
and b rocket wi
t

ga
soline
or
any solvent.
Reassemble.

Insert
element on bracket.

Place
cover on
bracket and
t
ighten
thumb screw.
It
is recommended
that
a
new air cleaner
element be purchased and installed
a
t
be-
ginning of each mowing season.

your best protection
against
excessive
en-
gine
wear.
NEVER RUN YOUR ENGINE WITHOUT AIR
CLEANER COMPLETELY
ASSEMBLED.
CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENT
Do
not make unnecessary
adjust
ments. Fac-
tory
set
tinAs are
correct
for most
applicat
ions.

After
making
initial adjustments as
shown
below (Fig

Turn
"High Speed
Adjusting Needle" for-
ward or bock

il engine
runs
smoothly. If engine
tends to
stoll
when
unit is
in
use
open
needle

turn.
Hold
throttle lever
in idle position.
Turn " Idle Adjusting
Need le" forward
or
bock

turn
at a
time until

ngine runs
smoothly.
Allow several
seconds between each adjust·
ment
for engine carburetor
to
react to
t
he
new
setling.

CHECK SPARK PLUG
Remove

spark
plug
each
time you
change oi
l
and
inspec
t
it.

The
electrodes should
be kep
t
dean
and
free
of corban.
The
presence of
carbon or excess
oil will
greatly deter
proper engine performance.
b.
If possible,
check the
spark plug gop
(area
between
electrodes) using
a wire
feeler
gouge.
This
specification should
be
.030.
