Replacing the Processor Fan and
Heat Sink Assembly

CAUTION: Incorrect alignment of the heat sink can cause damage to the system
board and processor.

Procedure

NOTE: The original thermal grease can be reused if the original processor and heat
sink are reinstalled together.
CAUTION: If either the processor or the heat sink is replaced, use the thermal
grease provided in the kit to make sure that thermal conductivity is achieved.
1 Place the processor fan and heat-sink assembly over the processor.
2 Connect the processor-fan cable to the system board connector (FNCPU1).
See "System-Board Components" on page 11.
3 Align the captive screws on the processor fan heat-sink assembly with the screw
holes on the system board.
4
Tighten the captive screws that secure the processor fan and heat-sink assembly to
the system board.

Postrequisites

Replace the computer cover. See "Replacing the Computer Cover" on page 16.
