Compacting; Removing A Full Trash Bag - GE GCG1500 Owner's Manual

Usingthe trash compactor.
Compacting
Tostart the compactor:
[_] Turn the knob to ON.
[_ Make sure the drawer is full} closed.
[_IJfl the fbot pedal up to strut c}cle.
The ram travels dowmvard into the
drawel; compacting the trash. At the
bottom of the stroke, the ram automatically
re\'el_es direction, *etracts out of the
drawel, returns
to its starting
position,
and the compactor shuts off automatically.
The cycle rakes less than 30 seconds.

NOTES:
[] You will not see compacting of trash the
first few _es you load, The compactor
drawer sh(_uld be about l/2 fldl beti)re
the compactor can begin to compress
the load.
[] Glass bottles can ma_ke a loud noise when
they hrea_k during compaction. This is
nomml, _Mso, bottles in the trash drawer
will not always break during the that
cycle, Brealdng glass and assodated noise
may occm" several cycles latec depending
on the t}l)e and volume ot the trash.
[] When bottles and cans axe compacted,
small tears in the bag may occur. This
is normal and in no way affects the
pert()mmnce

pierced the bag,
CAUTION:
[] Do not apply too much force when
turning the knob. The knob shouM
alwaus rotate easily. Fordng may break
the knob and damage the switch.
[] When emptying waste baskets into the
trash drawer, some items may spill into
the compactor behind the drawer. Items
behind the drawer could prevent it fl'om
closing completely and prevent the
COlllpactor [i'Olll opera0ng.

open the drawer and remo\ e it to clean

Tostop the compactor.
The compactor ma_ be stopped at an} time.

The satetv switch will activate,
[2-] Close the drawer completel} and the
ram will travel back to the L!P position,
[_ Open the drawer full} and ttlrll the
knob to OFF.
Removing a Full TrashBag
[] Pull the drawer completel,_ open.
[] Remoxe the top (if the bag fl'om the
bag retainer buttons. Pull up all fore"
bag cuffs.
[] I,ifl the bag out.
[] Push the side-lock latch down and tilt
the drawer side open.
