Measurethe plug gap with a feelergauge.Correctas necessary
by bendingsideelectrode.See Fig. 29.The gap shouldbe set to
between0.024-0.031 in.

Checkthatthe sparkplug washeris in good conditionand thread
the sparkplug in by handto preventcross-threading.
After thespark plug is seated,tightenwith a spark plugwrenchto
compressthe washer.
NOTE: Wheninstallinga newsparkplug,tighten 1/2turn after
the sparkplug seatsto compressthe washer.Whenreinstalling a
usedspark plug,tighten1/8-1/4turnafter the spark plugseatsto
compressthe washer.
IMPORTANT: The sparkplug mustbe securelytightened.An
improperly t ightenedspark plugcan becomevery hotand may
damagethe engine.
Fuel Filter Service
Gasolineand its vaporsare extremelyflammableand explosive.Fire
or explosioncan cause severeburnsor death.
Keepgasolineawayfrom sparks,open flames,pilotlights,heat,
and otherignition sources.
Checkfuellines, tank,cap, and fittingsfrequentlyfor cracksor
leaks.Replaceif necessary.
Beforereplacingthe fuel filter,drain the fueltank as in ToDrain
the Fuel.
Do notdrain fuel whentheengine ishot. Allowtheengine
adequatetime to cool. Drainfuel intoan approvedcontainer
outdoors,awayfromopen flame.
Drainany largevolumeof fuelfrom the tank by disconnecting the
fuelline from the in-line fuel filter near theengine.
Removethefuel line from the In-lineside (sidetowardsthe fuel
tank) of thefuel filter.
Replacement p arts mustbe the same and installedin the same
positionas the originalparts.
If fuelspills,wait until itevaporatesbeforestartingengine.
Beforereplacingthe fuel filter,drain the fueltank. Otherwise,fuel
can leakoutand causea fireor explosion.
To DrainThe Fuel:
1.
Locate the fuelfilter,whichisroutedon theleftsideof theengine
between thefuel tankand thecarburetor, and may be attachedto
the enginewitha tie strap.Cutthe tie strap,ifpresent,thenpinch
the in-lineclampon the fuelfilterwitha pair ofpliers,slidethe
clampup the fuelline.Pullthefuel linefreefromthe filterandplace
the openend ofthe lineintoan approvedcontainer to drainthe fuel.
To ChangeThe FuelFilter:

Usepliersto squeezethetabs on the otherclamp(the out-line
sideof the fuelfilter),and slidetheclamp awayfrom thefuel filter.
Twistand pull the fuel line off of the fuel filter.See Fig. 30.

Checkthe fuel linesforcracks or leaks.Replaceifnecessary.
4.
Replacethefuel filterwith an originalequipmentreplacement f ilter.
Call1-800-4-MY-HOME® to purchasethe originalequipment
replacement f ilter.
Securethe fuellineswith the clamps.

The fuelfilter cannot be cleanedand shouldbe replacedevery 100
operatinghours; moreoftenif run with old gasoline.

If theenginehasbeenrunning,allowit tocool forat leasthalfan hour
beforecleaning.Periodically removedirtbuild-upfromengine.Cleanthe
enginecoolingfinsevery25 hours.Cleanwitha brushor compressed
air.
IMPORTANT: Do notspray enginewith waterto cleanbecausewa-
ter couldcontaminate fuel. Usinga garden hoseor pressurewashing
equipmentcan alsoforce waterinto theair cleaneror muffleropening.
Waterin the air cleanerwill soak the paperelement,and waterthat
passesthroughthe elementor mufflercanenterthe cylinder,causing
damage.
Accumulation of debrisaroundmufflercouldcausea fire. Inspectand
cleanbeforeeveryuse.
