    Get Started The following topics give you all the information you need to set up your phone and Sprint service the first time. Your Phone at a Glance The following illustration outlines your phone’s primary external features and buttons. Set Up Your Phone You must first install and charge the battery to begin setting up your phone.
  • Page 15  Insert the battery, contacts end first, and gently press the battery into place.  Replace the battery compartment cover, making sure all the tabs are secure and there are no gaps around the cover. Note: When you insert the battery, your phone may power on automatically. Plug the USB connector into the charger/accessory jack on the bottom of your phone.
  • Page 16 Plug the AC adapter into an electrical outlet and charge your battery. Fully charging a battery may take up to three hours. Note: Your phone’s battery should have enough charge for the phone to turn on and find a signal, run the setup application, set up voicemail, and make a call. You should fully charge the battery as soon as possible.

     If your phone is activated, it will turn on, search for Sprint service, and begin the setup application.  If your phone is not yet activated, see Activate Your Phone for more information. Activate Your Phone Depending on your account or how and where you purchased your phone, it may be ready to use or you may need to activate it on your Sprint account.
  • Page 18 Google account, you can elect to restore your Google account information, such as apps, bookmarks, Wi-Fi passwords, and contacts, to your new Samsung Galaxy S III. Tap Next to continue.  Use Google location: Select your Google location options and tap Next.

     Tap Settings and uncheck the Sprint automatic connection option if you do not wish to use the Sprint Connections Optimizer. Your setup is now complete. Follow the onscreen instructions to learn about basic touch/tap menu navigation. Set Up Voicemail You should set up your Sprint Voicemail and personal greeting as soon as your phone is activated.

    Your screen remains blank while your phone is off (unless the battery is charging). Turn Your Screen On and Off Your phone allows you to quickly turn the screen off when not in use and to turn it back on and unlock it when you need it.

  • Page 27 Flick Flicking the screen is similar to swiping, except that you need to swipe your finger in light, quick strokes. This finger gesture is always in a vertical direction, such as when flicking the contacts or message list. Rotate For most screens, you can automatically change the screen orientation from portrait to landscape by turning the phone sideways.
  • Page 28 Note: The Auto-rotate check box needs to be selected for the screen orientation to automatically change. To make this selection, press > > Settings and tap Display > Auto-rotate screen. See Auto-rotate screen for more information. Pinch and Spread "Pinch" the screen using your thumb and forefinger to zoom out or "spread" the screen to zoom in when viewing a picture or a Web page.

Your Home Screen The home screen is the starting point for your phone’s applications, functions, and menus.     Phone is sharing/streaming media to paired device using the AllShare Play application. Samsung Account needs activation. Displays when Wi-Fi Direct is active and configured for a direct connection to another compatible device in the same direct communication mode. Phone is tethered via a supported USB cable connection.
