Hot-plug components

This chapter describes how to replace or add hot-plug components in the
PRIMERGY BX630 S2 scalable server blade.
V
CAUTION
Only hard disk modules can be added or replaced while the system is
running. For all other system components, the server blade must be
switched off and removed from the basic unit in order to open it. The
required procedure is described in the Options Guide or the Service
Supplement and must only be performed by qualified staff.
8.1

Hot-plug disk drives

In a PRIMERGY BX630 S2 dual-socket server blade, you can install one or two
2.5-inch SAS or SATA-II hard disk drives. In the BX630 S2 quad-socket server
blade, you can install up to four hard disk drives.
I
You cannot operate both SAS and SATA hard disks together in a server
blade.
On delivery, the available hard disk drives for the BX630 S2 server blade are
mounted in a module frame that allows you to replace defective drives and add
new ones while the system is running. Together, the hard disk drive and the
module frame make up the hard disk module.
V
CAUTION!
A hard disk must only be removed from the module by a service
technician.
The hard disk modules (drives) must all be clearly marked, so that
they can be reinstalled in the original bays if they are removed. If you
mix up the hard disks you might lose existing data.
"Hot plugging" is only possible in conjunction with a corresponding
RAID configuration.
For more information on RAID configurations or RAID levels, see the
documentation for the RAID controller.
