Focus Lock and Manual Focus
You can use focus lock with every recording
program except for Easy Recording. It is especially
useful when people or cars cross in front of the
camera or the subject is not in the centre of the
viewfinder.
In the special recording programs, (Sports, Portrait,
Spotlight, and Sand & Snow), you can adjust the
focus manually while it is locked.
1. Use the zoom to frame your subject.
• If you use the zoom after focusing, the picture
may go out of focus.
1. Make sure that one of the Custom Keys
is set to M. FOCUS.
2. Point the camera directly at the subject.
• The subject automatically comes into focus.
• If you are using FlexiZone AF, put the frame
over the subject.
3. Press the "M. Focus" Custom Key.
• The focus remains locked at this point.
• AF OFF appears in the viewfinder.
4. Press the "M. FOCUS" Custom Key to
return to autofocus.
Press the "M. FOCUS" custom key to
switch from auto to manual focus.
• AF OFF appears in the viewfinder.
• The focus remains locked at the point set by
the autofocus.
3. Use the FlexiZone controller to set the
focus.
• Press it downwards to move the focus nearer.
• Press it upwards to move the focus further
away.
4. Press the "M. FOCUS" custom key
again to return to autofocus.

Notes:
• See "Troubleshooting" on p. 48 for a list of
subjects which may not be suitable for autofocus.
• Manual focus is cancelled if you choose the Easy
Recording program, or if you turn the program
selector to EDIT, PLAY, or OFF.
• FlexiZone AF is cancelled if you move the program
selector from the o position.
• If you turn the program selector to FlexiZone AE
while using manual focus, the focus remains
locked. You may release it and activate the
FlexiZone AF by pressing the "M. Focus" Custom
Key.
