Chapter 2: the CD Player
Playing a CD (normal
play)
You can play CDs in four modes: normal,
shuffle, program and repeat. The mode
decides which tracks (songs) you will listen
to, which order you will listen in, and
whether or not they will repeat.
You can control the unit from the front
panel or from the supplied remote. You can
play both 12 cmand
8cm CDs. If the CD is
supplied with an adaptor, remove it before
playing the CD.
Before you play a CD, decrease the sound
level by turning down the volume, to avoid
damaging the speakers.
Note
When the unit is first plugged in, the CD
player's disc changer makes some
mechanical sounds internally.
The CD player cannot be operated while
"INITIAL" appears in the display.

1 Press OPEN /CLOSE & to open the disc
tray you desire.
2 Holding the CD by the edge, place the
CD on the CD tray with the label side
up, then press the OPEN/CLOSE &.
(When you play an 8-cm CD, place it on
the inner circle of the disc tray.)
You can load up to 5 discs, one onto
each tray, by pressing the OPEN/
CLOSE & button for the next tray you
want to load once you've placed a CD
onto the currently open tray.
When you've finished loading the discs,
be sure to close the last open tray by
pressing OPEN/CLOSE & before
proceeding to the following step.

If you made connections to the SA-VA15
speaker system using the FIXED LINE
OUT jacks, press VA VOL +/~ on the
remote control.
If you made other connections via the
VARIABLE jacks use LINE OUT/
PHONES LEVEL to turn the volume up
or down (or press HCD VOL +/- on the
remote).

When using the remote
First set the AUDIO/VIDEO selector to
AUDIO, then set the component selector to
CD (see Chapter 5, "Using the Remote").
Selecting a Desired CD
You can locate the beginning of any CD
during play or pause, or when the player is
stopped.
To locate the beginning of a
particular CD and start playing
Press the corresponding DISC 1 - 5 button.
During normal play mode, the selected CD
starts to playback.
To change to the next CD
Press DISK SKIP on the remote.
During playback, the player selects the next
CD and starts playback.
During stop or pause, the CD player selects
the next CD but remains in stop or pause
mode.
