PRECAUTIONS FOR USE

BE SURE TO READ

If objects made of metal (e.g., metal desks) are located near this unit, communication errors may occur with cards, and the unit may otherwise malfunction.
If malfunctions occur, keep the unit several centimeters away from metal surfaces.

System Requirements

This unit can be used in the following environments.

OS: Windows 7 SP1 (x86/x64), Windows Vista SP2 (x86/x64), Windows XP SP3 (x86)
Web browser: Internet Explorer 6 SP3, Internet Explorer 7, Internet Explorer 8, Internet Explorer 9

Notes

  • Windows XP Professional x64 Edition and Windows XP Tablet PC Edition are not supported.
  • Operation is not guaranteed on all computers that meet the recommended requirements.
  • Depending on the model of computer, the unit may not function properly if the computer enters standby mode or hibernation mode.
  • Depending on the power specifications of the computer, the unit may not function properly.
  • Operation is not guaranteed for all cards.
  • Only computers whose manufacturers guarantee performance of their USB ports can be used with this unit.
  • Operation has not been verified for the NEC PC-98 series and its compatible devices.

Basic Operation

  1. Place a card on the unit.
    Place the card so that the center of the card lies directly over the N-Mark on the unit.

<Tips>

  • Use the supplied stand if communication with the card fails.
  • Depending on the service and card you are using, communication errors may occur. In such cases, move the card so that it is slightly off-center of the unit.

Notes

  • The unit may generate heat during use. Although the heat does not reach extremely high temperatures, direct bodily contact for prolonged periods with the heated portion of the unit may result in redness and minor blistering of your skin.
  • If the unit is placed near an object that produces electromagnetic radiation, communication errors may occur with cards due to interference. Distance the unit from these objects to prevent interference.
  • The unit may not function properly if you hold multiple cards to the unit at the same time.
  • Depending on the card type, the unit may not function properly. In such cases, verify operation with the self-diagnostic tool.
  • As the timing for when to hold cards to the unit differs for each service, follow the specific operating procedure of the service in use.
  • When disconnecting the unit from the computer, select [Safely Remove Hardware] to stop the unit before disconnecting it.

To use the card holder

You can use the supplied card holder to fasten a card to the unit.
Using the card holder

  1. Attach the card holder to the unit.
  2. Fasten the card holder to the prescribed grooves on the rear of the unit.
  3. Insert the card between the card holder and the unit.
  4. When you are finished using the card, remove it from the card holder.

To use the stand

You can place the unit on the supplied stand and place a card.

  1. Place the unit on the stand.
  2. Place the card so that it is aligned with the N-Mark on the unit.

<Tips>

  • You can also place the unit on the stand with the card holder attached.
  • If this unit is placed on a desk or other surface that is made of metal, communication errors may occur with cards, and the unit may otherwise malfunction. If malfunctions occur, use the stand or keep the unit several centimeters away from metal surfaces.

Notes

  • Be careful of the ends of the card holder when attaching the holder to the unit. Your fingers may get caught between them, resulting in injury.
  • Do not bend the card when inserting or removing it from the card holder. Doing so may damage the card.
  • When transporting the unit, be sure to remove any cards from the card holder.

Preparation

  1. Check the package contents.
    Check that the following items are included in the package.
  • Reader/writer unit
  • Accessories (stand, card holder)
  • Dedicated USB cable
  1. Install the NFC port software to the computer.
    Make sure that the unit is not connected to the computer before installing the NFC port software.
    Notes
  • The NFC port software is not supplied with this unit. Obtain the software from the provider of the service you intend to use, and follow their instructions for installation.
  • If you cannot obtain the NFC port software or if you have questions, contact your dealer.
  1. Verify operation with the self-diagnostic tool.
    1. Connect the unit to the computer.
    2. Place a card on the unit.
    3. Click the Windows [Start] button, and select [All Programs] – [NFC Port] – [NFC Port SelfDiagnosis].
    4. Follow the instructions on the screen to perform self-diagnosis, and verify that the unit is functioning properly.
      If "x" appears as the self-diagnosis result, follow the instructions on the self-diagnosis screen.
