11.5 Descaling the Heating Element
Scale deposits can aff ect the heating capability of the element. Heavy scale can
even cause damage to the element.
NOTICE: PRODUCT DAMAGE
Failure of electric elements due to lime scale build-up on the
heating surface, low pH, or other imbalance IS NOT covered
by the warranty. See Section 3.
The element can be descaled either chemically or manually.
To descale chemically:
1. Soak the element in white vinegar or other food grade descaling solution
approved for use in potable water systems.
2. Once descaled, rinse well with a fresh water / baking soda solution.
To descale manually:
1. After the element has dried, use a soft brush (non-metallic to prevent
damaging the element sheath) on the element.
2. Brush the dried minerals off .
Reinstall the element after descaling. Ensure the element o-ring is installed and that
the element is rewired correctly.
NOTICE: PRODUCT DAMAGE, PROPERTY DAMAGE
The water heater must be full of water before the power is
turned on. The heating element will be damaged if energized
for even a short time while heating canister is dry. Failures
due to "dry-firing" ARE NOT covered by warranty.
