• Wrong network configuration
— Verify that the Ethernet card driver software and TCP/IP software are both installed
and configured on your PC or workstation.
— Verify that the IP address for your router and your workstation are correct and that the
addresses are on the same subnet.

Testing the Path from Your PC to a Remote Device

After verifying that the LAN path works correctly, test the path from your PC to a remote device:
• From the Windows run menu, type PING -n 10 followed by the IP address of a remote
device such as your ISP's DNS server.
If the path is functioning correctly, the PING program displays replies as in the previous
section. If you do not receive replies:
— Check that your PC has the IP address of your router listed as the default gateway. If the
IP configuration of your PC is assigned by DHCP, this information is not visible in the
control panel network utility. Go to the Run... window and run winipcfg. The IP address
of the router should appear as the Default Gateway.
— Check to see that the network address of your PC (the portion of the IP address specified
by the netmask) is different from the network address of the remote device.
— Check Menu 12 and verify that at least one static route exists.
If the path is still not functioning correctly, the router is unable to establish a connection with the
remote device. Refer to the next section,

Troubleshooting a Remote Node or ISP Connection

To troubleshoot a remote node or an ISP connection:
Verify that the ISDN line is synchronized.

Check that the ISDN D LED is on, or check the ISDN status in internal Manager Menu 24.1.
If the D LED or the menu indicates the ISDN status as down, then refer to
the ISDN Line," on
Run the Internet Setup Test or place a manual call to the remote node.

Run the Internet Setup Test from FirstGear or from Menu 24.4.11, or place a manual call to the
remote node using Menu 24.4.5. The progress of the call is displayed on the screen.
