Checking the charging voltage

15.8 Checking the o en-circuit current
15 WIRING HARNESS, BATTERY
Condition
The battery must be fully functional and completely charged.
-
Preparatory work Remove the seat. (lit!I p. 98)
-
Main work Carry out the start procedure.
Measure the voltage between the specified points.

If the displayed value is less than the specified value:
-
Check the plug-in connections from the alternator to
the voltage regulator.

Check the plug-in connections from the voltage regu-
lator to the wiring harness.
-
Check the stator winding of the alternator.
If the displayed value is greater than the specified value:
-
Change the voltage regulator.
Preparatory work

(FE EU/AU) Press and hold the kill switch (5<;) while the engine is idling
until the engine stops.

Press and hold the kill switch (5<;) while the engine is idling
until the engine stops.

Remove the seat. (a p. 98)

Main work
Disconnect the negative cable of the battery.

Measure the current between battery ground (-) and the neg-
ative cable.
Info
The value of the open-circuit current only applies to
vehicles in their original state without additional power
consumers.

Disconnect the voltage regulator from the wiring har­
ness and perform the measurement again.
