Shank Stop Maintenance/Adjustment Procedure

1 Checking the Shank Stop Position
[Items to be checked]
With the mute engaged (press the center pedal down and slide to the left to lock) and the hammers
touching the shank stopper, check the distance between the strings and face of the hammer of keys
in the low, medium, and upper registers.

[Adjustment]
Adjustment varies according to check results.
1) If the overall position of the shank stopper is wide
→ Adjust the turnbuckle.
2) If the distance differs between low and high registers
→ Adjust the length of the cable's outer case.
To widen
To narrow
3) If the distance differs between registers
→ Move the shank stopper rail to adjust.
2 Checking Sound Production
[Items to be checked]
With the mute disengaged, make sure the shank stopper is not in contact with any of the hammer
shanks.
[Adjustment]
Under normal conditions the hammer shanks will not be in contact with the shank stopper if
properly adjusted. (Make sure that the shank stop position is not too wide.)
⋅ Make sure shank stopper operates smoothly.
→ If operation is not normal, refer to the next section "Some Tips on Shank Stopper Unit
Motion" to solve the problem.
⋅ If the mute pedal stroke has changed due lack of use over and extended period of time, etc.,
check the pedal stroke as described in section 4.
3 Checking Let Off
[Items to be checked]
Make sure that the let off is properly adjusted, and that the let off is completed before the shank
makes contact with the shank stopper.
Let Off: Shank stop position +1 to 2mm
[Adjustment]
Use the regulating button to adjust within the tolerance described above.
5-7mm from the strings
Loosen the case screw.
Tighten the case screw.
