Manually Adjusting Oracle/Breville BCG820 Grinders
Note: Both Oracle and BCG820 are adjusted the same way.
The Oracle has a grind size scale of 1-45 (1 being the finest and 45 being the coarsest setting)
however this doesn't represent the full Spectrum of grind size that the Oracle can achieve.
We can get reach these other levels of grind size through a process of manual adjustment to the
inner burr of the Oracle machine.
1. Remove the bean hopper from the top of the unit and empty any beans that are in the hopper
into a bowl or container so as not to waste any.
2. Re-insert the hopper and lock it into position and run a Grind through the machine to remove any
excess beans/grind still in the chamber of the grinder and then remove the hopper again.
3. Now we have clear access to the burrs of the grinder and will need to remove the Outer Burr so as
to adjust how tight or loose we need it to be.
4. The Outer Burr will be sitting in a lock position inside the upper part of the grinder chamber.
The red arrow as shown above will be turned to the "Lock" position and will need to be turned anti
clockwise towards the "Align" position. We do this by using the silver handle to turn the outer burr.
5. Once removed you can now also remove the silver handle itself by pulling it out of the holes that it
sits in
6. When the handle is removed you can now rotate the top part of the outer burr either clockwise or
anti clockwise to tighten or loosen the way that the burr sits in its place.
Turning it clockwise will make the grinder run courser – so if your grind is Fine no matter how high
your grind number setting is you will turn it clockwise
Turning it anti clockwise will make the grinder run finer – So if you grind is Course no matter how
high your grind number settings is you will turn it anti clockwise.
This red arrow will be aligned to
"Lock" and will need to be turned
anti clockwise towards the "Align"
position.
Use this silver handle to turn the
burr anti clockwise from "Lock" to
"Align"

  • Page 2 – usually on a default of 6 If you own an older version of the Oracle the numbers will not be there but you can dictate how many settings you are changing by counting the holes that the silver handle can fit into – for example if you turn it anti clockwise by 3 of those holes and reinsert the silver handle it would be like turning it from Number 6 to Number 3 on one of the newer machines.
  • Page 3 10 to see if there is a significant change in your grind size. If you run through these steps and it still doesn’t change the grind size on any of the numbers please call Club Oracle on 1300 672 253.
