Manual Exposure
The camcorder is preset to Auto Exposure
mode, which automatically chooses the optimal
aperture. When there is too much contrast in
brightness between the subject and
background, however, you may not be able to
record a clear image. In this case, use the
manual exposure function to correct the
aperture.
Background is too bright and subject too dark
(backlit subject).
• Select a larger aperture value to allow more light
through the lens.
Subject is too bright against background.
• Select a smaller aperture value to allow less light
through the lens.

Set the camcorder to Tape Recording or
Card Recording mode.

Press the AUTO ON/OFF button to
select Manual mode.

Press the MENU/DISPLAY button until
the menu screen appears.

Turn the SET-PUSH dial (Q) to select
"EXPOSURE", and then press the dial
(W) to display the manual exposure
screen.

Turn the SET-PUSH dial to select the
desired aperture value.
• The number shown is the selected
aperture value. The adjustment range is
from –5 (least light) to +5 (most light).

Press the SET-PUSH dial to display the
exposure setting screen, and then press
the dial.
• The selected aperture value is displayed
on the menu screen.

Press the MENU/DISPLAY button to
turn off the menu screen.
To cancel Manual Exposure mode
After displaying the exposure setting screen in
step 6 above, turn the SET-PUSH dial to select
"AUTO", and then press the dial.

Notes:
• Manual Exposure mode will be cancelled if a
2 4H
picture effect is selected afterward.
• Manual Exposure cannot be used with Night
Recording.
• When you want to cancel all manual settings and
return to Auto mode, press the AUTO ON/OFF
button.
