High Pressure Diffuser - Introduction 5 of 26 Introduction Overview This manual describes how to install and clean the high pressure diffuser. The high pressure diffuser is an accessory that permits direct particle sampling of pressurized air, nitrogen, and inert gases. By means of flow control orifices, pressures as high as 150 psi are reduced to atmospheric pressure at the diffuser outlet.

The high pressure diffuser has been equipped with an orifice that produces a flow rate equal to the flow rate through the particle counter. For additional information on other orifices, contact Hach Ultra on 800.866.7889 or +1 541.472.6500. The orifice has been installed in the inlet or “PRESSURE” side of the diffuser.
8 of 26 Installation and Cleaning - High Pressure Diffuser 2.1.2 Diffuser Installation to CNC If the counting device is a condensation nucleus counter (CNC), install the high pressure diffuser by following the procedure and Figure 2-3 below. High Pressure Diffuser - Installation and Cleaning 9 of 26 2.1.3 Diffuser Installation to Particle Counter Install the high pressure diffuser to the particle counter by following the procedure and Figure 2-4 below. If the counter has a 1/8” inlet tube, use a 1/4” to 1/8” tubing reducer. Fig 2-4 : Diffuser Installation to Particle Counter 1) Verify the gasket in the VCR tube adapter is new (flat surface, no indentation).
10 of 26 Installation and Cleaning - High Pressure Diffuser 2.2 Cleaning Particles cannot be generated by the diffuser; however, the diffuser can become contaminated with particles if: • used or stored in an uncontrolled environment • the sample air is extremely contaminated. If it seems the diffuser may be contributing to particle counts, clean it by following the procedure Figure 2-5 below.
