Analyzer 2810/2815/2820 1.0 INTRODUCTION 1.1 General Bacharach’s lne of CO Analyzers are easy to use, but t s essental that these Operatng Instructons be read and understood by all operators and mantenance personnel pror to usng or servcng the nstrument. The 2810/2815/2820 are compact and lghtweght Carbon Doxde an- alyzers that dsplay the detected level of CO n the range of ether 0–10,000 ppm (2810/2815) or 0–60% (2820). The analyzer s based on the nfrared-absorpton prncple to detect the presence of CO . The 2810 operates by dffuson only, whle the 2815/2820 ncorporates an nternal pump for drawng n gas samples. Smply turn off the pump and the 2815/2820 samples by diffusion. A sampling tube and particulate filter are ncluded wth the 2815/2820 for remote samplng, whle the 2820 also includes a desiccant filter to be used when sampling areas with high humdty. All analyzers can store gas readngs n memory, whch can...

Analyzer 2810/2815/2820 2.0 OPERATION 2.1 Important Note Always ensure that the analyzer’s gas nlet connector (Fgure 1, Item C) and gas exhaust (Fgure 1, Item B) are unobstructed and open to the at- mosphere. Be careful not to breath drectly on the analyzer whle takng a measurement; otherwse, naccurate CO readngs wll result. 2.2 Switching the Analyzer ON/OFF Swtch ON the analyzer by pressng the button. Swtch the analyzer OFF by pressng the button down for at least 3 seconds, or untl the display goes blank. When first switched on, there is a warm-up period be- fore the CO level s dsplayed – approxmately 60 seconds for the 2810/ 2815 analyzer, and 20 seconds for the 2820. Note that a normal fresh-ar background readng of CO s approxmately 340 ppm. and...

Analyzer 2810/2815/2820 2.3 Pump Operation (2815/2820) Wth the analyzer already swtched on, momentarly pressng the but- ton swtches on the pump. Pressng the button agan turns the pump off. The suppled samplng probe and hose assembly can be connected to the gas nlet connector on the top of the analyzer for drawng n gas samples from hard-to-reach locatons. Particulate filter P/N 54-0548 is placed on top of the gas inlet to prevent dust or drt from beng drawn nto the nstrument. Replace the par- ticulate filter about once a month, or when the filter is contaminated as evdenced by a slower response tme.

Analyzer 2810/2815/2820 For those stuatons where water droplets may be present n the sample line, you will need to install a water trap between the Nafion tubing and the ncubator’s sample port as descrbed n Secton 2.14. After completng a test, contnue to run the pump whle samplng fresh ar untl the readng s below 0.1. Ths wll purge out any resdual CO and mosture before proceedng to the next test. 2.6 Storing Readings There are two readng-storage modes avalable: • Snapshot • Contnuous Data Loggng Pressng the f button once stores (takes a snapshot of) the readng shown on the dsplay. Clock icon is displayed once for ppm CO2 a snapshot, and flashes during continuous logging.

Analyzer 2810/2815/2820 2.8 Battery Charge Display The battery’s remanng charge s dsplayed by pressng the f button once. A bar graph n the lower part of ths screen shows an approx- maton of the battery’s remanng charge. As the charge reduces, the bar graph decreases n sze. Typcal operatng tme from a full charge s 7 hours wth the pump runnng, and 10 hours wth the pump off. Battery Level = represents full charge = represents low charge 2.9 Backlight To vew the LCD n poor ambent lghtng condtons, turn on the ds- play’s backlght by pressng the f button once (wth the analyzer on). The backlght stays on for 5 seconds and then automatcally turns off. 2.10 Audible Gas-Level Tone (2815/2820) An audble tone, whch wll ncrease n ptch wth ncreasng CO levels, s actvated by pressng and holdng down the f button for 3 seconds. The tone s turned off by agan pressng and holdng down the f button for 3 seconds. 2.11 Fault Condition Warning The analyzer s capable of alertng the operator of an nternal fault condton (.e., a sensor falure or blockage n the nfrared path). If a fault occurs, the analyzer’s beeper wll sound contnuously, and the followng...

Swtch ON the analyzer without the charger attached. Note: Connecting a charger to an analyzer that is switched OFF causes the analyzer to enter its charging mode, which in turn prevents the analyzer from being switched ON.

Analyzer 2810/2815/2820 2.14 Testing Incubators (2820) When testng ncubators wth the Model 2820, t s mportant to keep mosture from enterng the nstrument. Mosture can contamnate the IR cell and affect the readngs. A Gas Dryer Tube (Nafion) is supplied with the instrument to remove excess water vapor (humidity) – refer to Section 2.5. The Nafion tube must be used at all tmes when testng n hgh humdty envronments. When testng water-jacketed ncubators, however, the potental exsts of drawng water droplets that form nsde the ncubator’s nternal sample line through the Nafion tubing and into the instrument. A water trap is provded wth the nstrument as an accessory to prevent water from be- ng drawn nto the nstrument. The water trap s nstalled between the...

s swtched OFF/ON. The analyzer should also be checked on a perodc bass wth a hgher concentraton of CO to ensure that t stll meets ts accuracy specification. Follow the procedure under Secton 3.7.1 to calbrate a 2810/2815 Low Range (LR) Analyzer, or the procedure under Secton 3.7.2 to calbrate a 2820 Hgh Range (HR) Analyzer. 3.7.1 2810/2815 Calibration Procedure 3.7.1.1 Air Calibration Perform ths procedure n an uncontamnated envroment such as out- sde fresh ar, an empty room, or corrdor where the ar s assumed to contan 340 ppm CO Important! DO NOT perform an air calibration after sam- pling high concentrations of CO gas. Also, be careful that your breath does not affect this procedure.

The appled CO concentraton must equal the gas value ds- played n the top lne of the Gas Calbraton screen. Important! Do not attempt to calibrate the analyzer if the pressure gauge closest to the tank reads below 5 psi. 4. Adjust the regulator attached to the gas cylnder for an outlet pressure of 2 psi (equivalent to a flow rate of approximately 120 cc/minute).
